It is very handy. It is legal for highway use as well.

Get the 16" bucket, much better. Couple of things. I get this was your first time, but you looked a little nervous up there. Trust the machine. Yes it will move around on you. Second, learn how to move the backhoe around using the backhoe itself. If you're wanting to dig a trench you're going to have a hard time if you keep switching seats everytime you want to move.

I'm looking af getting this exact backhoe. Was this your first time using it? I plan to use for similar purpose on smaller trees but I have a lot of rocks I wanna dig out and thinking a mechanical thumb may help to grab them. I also need to dig out an old collapsed culvert and fill in a huge washout that was caused from this culvert being collapsed. I'd say I need to fill in an area 4 feet deep, 5 feet wide and 5 feet long. Its next to a hillside in the woods so I have plenty of dirt. Also looking to trench with it to run drain tile. May put in a 18 inch culvert with it too. What size bucket do you recommend? It comes with 16" but I'm thinking I want the 10" because it will be pulling against less material thus working faster. I've also wondering about the ripper and using that to pull up small trees and stumps instead of the bucket. Thanks and nice video.

Thanks for your comment David. Yes it was my first time using any backhoe. It doesn’t take to long to get used to the controls. I believe I have a 12 inch bucket, I was thinking the same as you, the smaller bucket would dig more. I sometimes wish I had a bigger one. If you think you will be just digging dirt more than anything I would go bigger. The tractor has plenty of power for that! I have been taking down a lot of smaller saplings with mine and it does excellent. You may have some saplings that you have to work on a little longer but you will get them out. I have dug a couple trenches the first one for an electric line that was a peace of cake. The second was for a water line and I hit a huge rock that I got stuck on and almost gave up on it. I got the idea to turn the tractor around and dig from the other side to see exactly how big the rock was. It came out fairly easy from the other direction, it broke apart and I got the whole rock out of the ground. I wish I would have got some video of it! I got a thumb late last fall just before everything got so wet so I haven’t used it a lot. I think it will be pretty handy from what I have done with it.
