Good question. The key word here is 'reward.' This dog responds to praise as a reward, not all dogs do well using JUST praise, especially dogs with high prey drive. She is just that kind of dog that does well without cookes or play, so that becomes less to fade as training goes on if I don't rely on it. Shaping involves reinforcing a behaviour but gradually changing the criteria for reinforcement over time. What you use as reinforcement depends on each particualr dog.

About the street, that is where most people in residential neighborhoods walk, train, and socialize their dogs, so it is important to expose and proof the training around cars, trailers, joggers, bikers, and other dogs. I agree that a dog should never be allowed to enter the street unless in heel position, It think being consistent with this can help the dog understand when going into the street is appropriate and when it's not.

Yes, white markings on rubies are considered mismarks and, although are discouraged in the show ring, they are common and, at least in the AKC, not a disqualifying fault. Many ruby puppies are born with such markings that fade with age, especially when there are parti-colored dogs in the line.

No, this is a litter of ruby puppies, just like their mother. The spunky puppy, however, is mismarked with a streak on his face. This may fade with age, though.
