I think van halen was at its best with Sammy hagar. Alex was not a genius he never wrote a van halen song. I think michaels backing vocals were more important for the van halen sound, than alex drum work

Alex is shamefully underrated as a drummer and overlooked when discussing VH. He’s a great drummer and very important to their songs and sound. Eddie was rightly celebrated but pretending Alex isn’t worthy mentioning is idiotic. I’d rather have him as my drummer than John Bonham. He’s more versatile and has better timing. Alex also got one big thing right, and it should be obvious: DLR and the VH brothers were a magical combination. Their last album and first reunion in 27 years in 2012 proved it, even if the material didn’t match the best of their earlier work, the magic was back. “As Is” is a great example. Hagar fronted the power-pop VH. Their rock during that time was flat with no spark or dynamism. Michael Anthony was a fantastic backup singer and good bass player but Wolfgang filled in fine on bass for their final album.

Just have Wolfie do the solos he’s a clone of his father. He can do the bass as well and just get Roth to auto tune the shit out of his voice and you’re there.

You dont have to be Einstein to knowledge that it became another band after Roth hello!? The showmanship was gone! And the band got more pop and still made numb 1 albums, Hagar was more into writing songs than Roth beeing a guitarist and song writer himself and that could be a reason those VH brothers start thinking he's gonna run the show, they should all be grateful for what they had and have and leave it at that! And skip the BS!

The AI thing is a horrible idea. Robert Plant hasn't expressed a desire to do any heavy'ish rock and roll for decades AND halted his own back after a key member passed. Why would that conversation last longer than 3 seconds? Al, Wolfgang and Mike are all you need to get as close as is ever possible to VH and do it respectfully. No Dave. No Sammy. No Mitch Malloy, Phil Collins or nada.

Sammy Hagar is a better songwriter & singer but Roth was the greatest frontman ever.

Recent comments from Alex lead me to believe that all of the alcohol he consumed over the years have definitely caused some damage. Things were better when he kept quiet. You don't use a computer program to "fake" an EVH guitar solo and NOBODY wants to hear Robert Plant sing Van Halen.

My question is, what has Alex done to make him a star? He was only in Van Halen. Never did another note with anybody else. His only non-Van Halen project was a solo song with Eddie for the movie twister. He was Eddie’s yes-man.

IF Alex said that then he’s full of crap, IMO. Everyone has a right to their opinion, Alex included… but to say Van Halen lost its magic or wasn’t good after David Lee Roth is just pure animosity and continued BS directed toward Sammy and Michael… what else is new! It’s an entirely new level of snubbery, and snobbery on Alex’s part! Alex and Ed treated Michael like crap, period! And again, IF… again IF, Alex said that - especially considering how close Alex was with Sammy, that is until Sammy dared disobey the Van Halen Brothers’ by wanting to spend a little time with his wife while she had her baby - then it’s very sad, and I’m just about ready to write Alex off as a disingenuous, self-serving @$$hole! Sammy started the reunion idea before Alex apparently even thought of it, and asked Alex to consider it before asking anyone else. I love Ed and Al as great rock musicians, but apparently the “Brothers” were vicious when the least little thing didn’t go their way… even David Lee said, “You had better not offend the Brothers… there will be hell to pay for anyone if they dare!” Alex and Ed asked Sammy to join the band… not the other way around. Sammy had a great solo career before Ed and Al asked him to play. From the first get together Ed was RAVING about Sammy, his talent, his vocal ability, and his instant ability to write lyrics to songs. So for Alex to insinuate neither he nor Michael were up to par by his standards is complete BS! Sorry, Al… both Sammy and Michael helped bring you a lot more fame and fortune… even more than the DLR era. If you’re unhappy with that, stop whining and blame yourself and Ed for it… you chose them, and played with them happily for YEARS! No one ever really knows what is true on the web. But IF TRUE, then I’ve had it with this guy, his nose-in-the-air arrogance, and his petty little unforgiving - and in some instances misled - attitude on Michael and Sammy! I was a HUGE fan of the guys for years, both versions… and I could see why they had attitudes on Dave for running out on them. Now? Maybe the brothers were the eventual problem with all of the incarnations of Van Halen? Whatever… it’s over, and this is getting old. What a shame… all the way around!
