I've seen a fair few of his videos, and I like his work. Being a non-player (but doing a lot of reading/watching) the idea of a 5 string in perfect fifths tickles my aspergers like no tomorrow, so to theoretically have a guitar in CGDAE, well... I just wouldn't want it on a 28-inch or whatever scale that he uses. That and I also would ideally have a CF neck, if not a CF neck-through instrument and a pretty custom pickup and trick wiring setup. I just know that if I even proposed that, prices would go from mid 600s well into the 1000s and at that point, I might as well do it myself and just ask for some custom parts like a nut and bridge to adapt to a standard width neck.

Thanks! Unfortunately not; there are more than a few pieces when there isn't enough time to manage a recording and also play, so I only have what is already uploaded.

@@celloman529 Do you happen to know where I can find the sheet music you used? We perform the musical in our school and I think it sounds better if I don't create the sheet music by listening to the original but use the original directly.

Hey man, I know this video's a few years old, but I just want to say good job. I'm also a cellist myself, and I did this show a couple of months ago. I enjoyed your interpretation of the part. This wasn't an easy show, but I'm sure your playing went over well with the audience.

God, each musician sounds great to his and her own end, but the way this score slowly but surely builds as more parts get introduced is amazing! One of my favorite orchestral scores for the musical theatre!

Hey Charlie, What kind of bow do you use?
@celloman5294 жыл бұрын
I have a few and will change throughout the show depending on the tone needed. This one is actually a synthetic bow called an incredibow that I use for more aggressive playing. It can take the beating much better than my nicer woods bows. Best of all, its very affordable, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try

I would love to try to make something like this using one of the MORTone instrument conversion kits, except using a 27-29” Baritone neck, to get more power out of it and to keep it in the scale of a cello.

I had to play this! For me King Of New York is the easiest out of all the songs. Hardest one for me is either The World will know when it gets into C flat major, or the treble clef part in Once and For All.
@Boss_Bueno4 жыл бұрын
I don't play cello at all, that said, however, as a singer, I definitely understand the stress of flattening every note in the staff. I've got crazy respect for people who play instruments and even more for those who can sightread in those crazy keys. I played Reverend Shaw at my school's Footloose, and we struggled with how many key changes they have. Musicals aren't as easy as modern pop.
@ActiveAura9514 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. Musicals are really tough. I’m someone who comes from classical music. So having to really keep track of measures and keys in such a fast way is not the easiest thing. However I still loved playing Newsies.

Thank you so much Charlie for the review. You've given me some good feedback to think about, particularly, the flat wound strings idea. I look forward to hearing some more mandocello playing as your technique improves. And your playing is very good for first time at using frets. Keep pluckin' that thang!

I came across this video on my feed, and was immediately drawn to it since I will be a part of this production early next year. I was happy to see that the cello part did not seem to difficult. But I am still curious as to what the cello part for this musical sounds like. I have listened to the soundtarck multiple times now to see if that would give me a better idea of what I would have to play, but it is very difficult to clearly hear the cello part except for that one solo in Big Bright Beautiful World (Reprise) lol. I was wondering if you have anymore videos of you playing the cello part. Or do you possibly have a pdf of the cello part. I would very much appreciate it if you could help me!!
@celloman5296 жыл бұрын
this is the easiest number in the book, but overall it's not a challenging cello part. there are some nice melodic lines in the Act 1 closer and in some of Shrek's other solo numbers in Act 2. Not too hard and gives a good opportunity to really sing on the instrument. Have fun playing the show!
@jasonsanchez62596 жыл бұрын
I totally see what you mean by the melodic lines, I love phrases like that not only are they easy but it gives a lot of opportunity to use different tones and as you said sing out the instrument. Thank you so much for the reassurance!!!

if you send me an email (better sent as a private msg) I can send more videos. It's not legal to share the PDF, but if you contact your MD and ask to get the music ahead of time sometimes MTI can do that for you.

What you just said is exactly @ConradT3's point - Sing Off came before Pitch Perfect. So how can you say that his dumb? Also, how can you say that sing off was inspired by Pitch perfect? If there is a "real life" competition that mostly inspired Pitch Perfect that is the ICCA.
