Many thanks! I had some time between other projects and after I got this in the mail the other day, I said "I should unbox this for The Obscura Toy Files.", and here we are. I just finished recording a review of the Key Force Warriors White Heat heroic Key Master toy, that will be uploaded soon. After that I'll be reviewing the last Key Force toy I have, the evil War-Lock Cutthroat and also be showing all the toys I have together. After that? I have a couple of things still to review so keep your eyes peeled here for more!

The main reason for me doing these videos of un boxing a MISB toy is really just to see what's inside the box AND to document it so that maybe other people out there don't need to open up their MISB vehicles. This channel was never about monetization rofl its purely for fun for me and if other people have fun cool! Whats funny is I may have to look up loose parts for this as it didn't include the seat belt AND I opened this thing right on camera. Finding that M.A.S.K. poster/calendar for 1987/88 totally unlocked memories of when I was a 6 or 7 year old kid getting M.A.S.K. toys as I totally remember that poster. Once M.A.S.K. got to the "Split Seconds" them towards the end of the line in 1988, Kenner had moved over to the "Kenner Action Toy Guide" booklets over poasters, so this poster/calendar was probably the last year they did these for the M.A.S.K. line.

I know they made Overkill into a cyborg in the G.I. Oh, man, I had this and Super Trooper in the late 80’s. I loved Super Trooper’s shield. One of the few downsides of being in the Army was discovering just what BS so much of Joes’ kit was. I can’t imagine trying to carry Super Trooper’s shield in Afghanistan.
@theobscuratoyfiles1142
@theobscuratoyfiles1142 Жыл бұрын
Super Trooper's shield really did have an awesome design, I never mailed away for him, but his overall look always stuck out in my mind over the years- and apparently he has the same head as Knockdown from Battle Force 2000. Carson over at 3djoes.com had said when talking about his Kickstarter "Operation: Recall" O-Ring 3.75" figure line, that he wants it to be "Military Fantasy" more then realistic military. I think G.I. Joe got more into that "Military Fantasy" genre as it went into 1986 and beyond, with fun toy vehicles like the Swamp Masher, but were in no way based in reality. You look at a BUNCH of the vehicles in G.I. Joe and see that they are great for kids to play and imagine battles with, but in high stakes, real life wars, a soldier wouldn't last 10 seconds in some of these things. Like the Cobra Pogo is a cool looking toy vehicle, but I think a soldier with good aim and a rocket launcher could just blow them out of the sky in between hops.
@dennisrounds1996

I think it looks cool overall. That said I can’t get over all these vehicles NOT having windshields, especially flying ones. I always liked BF2000 even now. It’s too bad the original idea didn’t match for them to be a spin off of the Joes and battle the iron grenadiers. Look at how many IG vehicles and figures were made. That makes me look back and wonder which characters and vehicles were originally meant to be in BF2X?’ Yes the toys were a bit shoddy but so were many of the cheaper Joe vehicles. I thought all the. BF vehicles and figures were pretty neat
@theobscuratoyfiles1142
@theobscuratoyfiles1142 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I dig it! It feels more finalized then some of the other BF2000 vehicles. What's funny is the Vindicator was supposed to have a windshield, you can see it on the back of the box on the prototype in the photo, but I guess it it didnt "cost out" and Hasbro nixed it. There's still a slot for where it would have plugged in too, so it's even more bittersweet it's not included. I think just Dee-Jay was the only other BF2000 character, and the Pulverizer tank that was another cheapie vehicle.

Yeah he has a good look and the machine gun skis are very toyetic and not realistic at all (maybe he pushes his toes on a button to fire them?). Me and my friend where laughing about that earlier today! It's like, "Hasbro give the guy a roof or something.". It's not a bad idea, but the execution was missing a few parts. The front should have been more like a sled so it could glide on snow easier. I tried it in the snow and it didn't work so well lol.

Awesome! Then you've come to the right place as I do that alot on this channel. Yeah the Arctic Blast is a very "toyetic" vehicle, meaning in a real life, no holds barred, military combat situation: this thing would not last very long. In the world of toys however, it's a great arctic vehicle for kids to drive around their snow Joes. It holds 3 guys in total and for the time, it wouldn't be a bad grab for $8.99. Also: Windchill has machine guns on his skis. Is it realistic? Of course not. But- is it freaking awesome? Oh hell yes.

The real problem with Battle Force 2000, was upper management. The team really wanted them to be epic vehicles and they just kept getting the budget cut, forcing them to come out less then stellar. If you go to 3djoes.com, the site owner, Carson has some audio recordings he did from interviews with the design team. They talk about how they wanted it to be and it's stuff I never knew. The Vindicator even had its clear windshield cut for budget issues but it can be seen on the back of the box. This vehicle is pretty fun, and a few of the others are, but a couple just seem incomplete- which makes sense if things were cut to make them cheaper for Hasbro to manufacture.

@theobscuratoyfiles1142
@theobscuratoyfiles1142 Жыл бұрын
You totally could find some affordably carded Joes at JoeFest. I paid $100 for that Blaster/Avalanche 2-pack and I felt that was a good price as it works out to basically $50 per figure. A local collectibles store had a HUGE vintage collection come into their possession back in 2019 and they have some carded figures from anywhere to $40-to-$100 a piece. Granted not as cheap as they cost back in the day, but I feel anywhere from $30-to-$40 bucks for a carded Joe is a decent price. You'll not find any that cheap between 1982-to-1987, but it depends on demand and which character it is. Also the condition of the cardback. If you want to open a vintage, carded G.I. Joe, I would recommend looking for ones with damaged cardbacks. Like the Pathfinder figure I showed off a couple videos back. He was just $65 bucks BUT his cardback had gotten wet, warped and it's as wavy as a potato chip. So that's a perfect candidate to open. Like I mentioned in this video, I prefer to get my Joes MOC or MIB because then I know I'm getting them in the newest condition possible. No broken thumbs, no cracked crotches, etc. It also depends on how many accessories they come with. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a MOC figure and open it then hunt down all the parts to complete a loose one.

The Toys R Us price sticker on the side said it cost $8.99 so there isn't alot to it. I didn't think of the seat belt being inside the tire, damn now I have to look. Wouldn't that be a kick in the head if it got stuck in there? Yeah I agree, $90 was juuuust within the range I would have paid for it. If it was like $150 or $200, I'd have easily passed on it.

Hey! Welcome to the channel! And thanks to @3GoodNerds for the recommendation. I might be able to do that with the Pathfinder, but the card is VERY warped and has water degradation damage on it all over the back of it. If you look, you can't even see Countdown on the cross sell art on the back because some other G.I. Joe package got stuck to it and tore off part of the card. If this was in really nice, mint condition I'd totally keep it carded. Actually- had it been in better condition I'd not have even to be able to afford it. This guy was only $65 bucks because of how damaged the card and bubble were. Apparently, as the story goes, this Pathfinder came from a secret toy collector who died in the spring of 2019. This store local to me went to his widow's house and this guy had DOZENS of carded Joe figures. He apparently loved science fiction so he was troop building with all sorts of Vipers and Iron Grenadiers Troopers. Over the past 4 years they've sold off alot of the collection but STILL have a ton of crap left, mostly loose figures and some carded ones. Some cards were so badly water damaged with mold inside the bubbles, that the store had to take the figures off the cardbacks and sell them loose (this secret collector had to have stored them in a basement or something). I know because I got x2 Annihilators from them and the weapons and the figures were in SUPER MINT shape. I've opened alot of vintage Joes over the years, so I know what they feel like and look like when they're recently un-carded. As for your more G.I. Joe request? You will be getting your wish as I am putting a review of the Arctic Blast with Wind Chill up here tomorrow! So stay tuned for that.

You know, I thought it might have been but I wasn't 100% certain. I never watched the show but saw clips here and there on KZbin. Are the Ultra Police in it too?

I've heard that before! I was actually at the one in the American Dream mall in New Jersey last month. So cool to see them starting to come back.

Good vid! I would like to see you do a collection video and your thumbnail should show a big chunk of what you like most. Robocop rocks!

Thanks and once I get the Robo-Command boxed vehicle in the mail, I'm going to do an un-boxing video and put that together and de-card these 4 figures. The RoboCop line was pretty slick, lots of cool figure designs and awesome vehicles. Definitely not one to pass up!

You're welcome! It's a great set and any fan of the old LJN Advanced Dungeons and Dragons line should have these in their collection.
