This is the best Scarborough Chairlift videos i have seen. Brill. I was a child of the 1970s and remember riding that with our family. I had red wooden scholl clogs on one time and thinking i was going to lose them but then worried more about losing myself through the bar. My younger sister was still in a pushchair one time and the ride operator set aside one of the chairs to carry up my sisters pushchair and i remember looking backwards at that wondering if me, my clogs or the pushchair was going to fall into the bushes below first.😮😅. Great memories of times gone past. Scarborough is still a family favourite today and walk from South to North bay, go around Peasholme Park and North side beach with all the chalets and get the open topped bus back to the South side with the penny slots and harbour and the Spa and have cake n cuppa in the " Flag" cafe before returning to the car. Happy Days ❤😊

Great footage, funny to see the subtle differences in the locos from then to today

Shame that trips like this are no longer possible and we have to make do with old videos. Opportunities for coastal cruising in Sussex, as also in the Bristol Channel, have now become very few and yet the demand is huge. When the "Balmoral" last sailed from Rye she was full and completely sold out. My own videos of and from "Balmoral" on the Sussex coast and also from Ilfracombe to Swansea are poorer picture quality than this but happy memories for me just the same.

I will never understand why the cable cars went. I get so sad seeing the remaining posts. They killed off the north bay when they shut kinderland, water splash world and the fair.

One of my favourite places, the loading wall has always fascinated me with it's internal hoppers and chutes. I'm slowly making a model railway mixing Charlestown and Newquay features.

What a waste of money, like all the other alterations, should have left the seafront as it was years gone by.

Went back there today, been back a few times since it closed down. It’s always so sad to see. As I only lived 20 minutes away, I was always there as a kid. The housing development is well on its way now but a lot of it isn’t built on yet, so if you want to see it before it’s all houses, go soon! Most of the original car parks are still there, probably the most recognisable part left. All blocked off and untouched, so overgrown etc, but recognisable. All the sign posts are still there, but sadly no signs on them. If you know the park well, you can make out areas and where things used to be, but nothing is actually recognisable, you won’t be like ‘oh, there are the foundations for the missile’. The main entrance (not the original grand entrance, the crappy later addition entrance) is still there untouched.

This is what happens when folk fail to appreciate what they have and end up losing it through indifference. It's the failure of the public to support these attractions that lead to their demise , not the actions or inactions of the council.

Not seen this for years, Brings back some really good memories. I really miss my best mate Rick Ferris (the captain steering the boat) Nice hearing his voice and seeing Gemma the boat dog, I still have a picture of her jumping off the side of Bolle Beer to swim to the bank and run along to the locks where we would pick her back up. :)
