On Tuesday 23rd july 2024 i had surgery on both wrists which had been crushed during a bad fall. I had bilateral distal radius repair using y plates and screws. The pain was awful and post op pain was equaly bad. Around 9 hours after surgery fluid started leaking from the scar on my left arm. Initially clear then Pink then mixed with fresh blood. It was very frightening but surgeon managed to stop the fluid/blood leak and its been dry since. Its awful having both arms in casts as it inhibits my ability to do simple everyday things like wash, dress, visit toilet, prepare food/drinks etc. the pain is becoming more managable and im ensuring i keep my fingers moving and elevate my arms when possible. Its difficult to find a sleeping position that is comfortable for both arms but im sure that will get easier with time. Has anyone else had bilateral distal radius repairs and if so do you have any advice regarding coping with everyday tasks, pain managment and best ways to rest my arms. Many thanks for reading

Salamat napanood ko video mo. Parehas tayo nangyari. Pa 2 months na ako na surgery. Nababagalan ako sa recovery ganun pala talaga. Sobrang tigas pa rin ng wrist ko. Simula na rin ako ng theraphy. Salamat ulit. Nagkaroon ako ng pag asa na bumalik sa dati kamay ko wag lang mainip. Godbless.

Yes, laban lang. i’m glad nakatulong itong video sa recovery. My hands are functional now and I am already working, continue pa din ako sa pag eexercise as much as possible at wag biglaing magbuhat. Healing takes time.

Hello, I had this surgery too. 2 days after the accident. They inserted a "baby foot plate" on the radius bone. 4 months after surgery the plate was removed because of some internal blockage. Did they remove yours too?

hello po, tanong ko lang po kung gumagalaw din po ba yung buto nyo kapag inihaharap nyo sainyo, kakagaleng ko lang din po sa distal radius fracture at 2weeks palang po nakakalipas simula nung tinanggal yung K-Wire or Titanium Pin😢

Hello, now lang nabasa message mo. Metal plate kasi yung sakin so nasa loob na. So far wala naman ako nafifeel na may gumagalaw sa loob pero maingat pa din talaga ako for any impact.

It depends on your nationality if you need visa but as a foreigner I did not fill out web immigration before arrival (like if you go to Japan) Just arrive as normal, line at the immigration counter

Hi, in my case, I was already typing in the laptop keyboard to exercise my fingers after 2 weeks-1 month post-surgery but not too much because the wrist will strain so I have no choice and just use my only other normal hand to type and do my work. Please ask your ortho doctor to be sure.

Thanks for the encouraging videos. Fractured both ulna and radius now 8 weeks after surgery. It's really hard especially supination and pronation, after exercising soon it stiffens up again with less range. Did you experience the same? When will the stiff feeling in the hand be gone and feel more normal again pls? Its especially stiff in the mornings when I wake up 😢 I really want to travel four months post surgery but fear of stiffness, pain and discomfort is holding me back. Did you still have to continue with physio exercises during travel many times a day after discharge from physiotherapy?

Hello, actually it's been already a year since I had the metal plate surgery. After my cast was removed 1-2 months after surgery I remember and it was impossible for me to supinate due to stiffness, thankfully physical therapy helped me with that. My hand is normal now and can do the basic stuff. There's only mild stiffness in the morning especially when it's cold but can be relieved by exercise and hot compress but I don't need to do it everyday. Usually the stiffness and pain just go away. I don't force myself to do heavy lifting. About travel, I was able to travel 4 months post-surgery and right after I finished the physical therapy but I traveled with companion to help me with some things and I was very careful even now I always protect the hand. During travel I brought the stress ball, hand gripper with me and just continue the exercises. My other hand (the normal one) is also very helpful all this time.

During those period I would always see my Ortho doctor for follow-up and updates. I also had follow-up x-ray and CT scan to make sure that bone was healing properly before I got into physical therapy.

You can talk to your doctor about your concerns. I was able to ride a bike during my travel in Vietnam (4-5 months post surgery) using my two hands. But I made sure my normal hand was taking the lead coz I don't want any accident to happen again. Other than that I don't do extreme activities that might harm me.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it really sheds light on the recovery path. Was there still alot of pain and stiffness/tightness by your Vietnam travel? I constantly feel some tightness around the wrist.

@@ywl8876 Hi, probably I felt it sometimes but not really a lot of pain/stiffness. I would say I cannot even remember it. I just make sure I still take care of my hand.
