4:18 (3:50 on the original recording) to the end of the song still, to this day, gives me goose bumps when I hear it. It's one of the cleanest, most melodic, beautifully crafted solos in history.

This man's unusually prolific mental process, created possibly the most complex, and musically genius guitar solos in the anals of all of music history

Incredible talent. I still say the best intro solo of all time is on Don't Take Me Alive. Anyway, Larry is a little goofy in the end. ;-)

What a lovely man and what a fabulous musician. I say musician, as these Dan guitarists didn't reproduce solos in the studio - they wrote them. Donald and Walter knew who to choose !

I saw Larry Carlton play in Vegas a few years ago. It was like I died and went to heaven. It was the most wonderful experience that I've ever going to concerts! It was a small venue. The sax player from Joe Bonamassa's band sat in that night. It was truly like watch Art being perform in front of your eyes. Thanks Larry!!!

Larry is "Mr. 335," but he's also "Mr. Smooth." His solo in the unedited version of "Hill Street Blues" is one of his best in my book, strangely enough. A lot of that sound is the ES-335. He was one of the masters of this incredible studio instrument. As for this solo, there isn't a single solo on a Steely Dan song that isn't entirely unique, beautifully voiced and actually "sing-able." Parks, Randall, Baxter, Dias, Becker, Carlton, Graydon, and yes, even Mark Knopfler... All are/were outstanding in their field.

Toto's Steve Lukather: "I realized it was okay to play a bad note when I saw Larry Carlton six years ago. He broke his E string, and everybody was like 'Oh, no." Then he took his clippers and clipped off the B and G strings and played a killer solo!"

It blows my damn mind that he just came up with that solo on the spot. The reason it stands astride most other guitar solos ever made is that it's basically a series of extremely distinctive statements, with zero "guitar cliches".

Larry Carlton is one of the greatest pure guitarists of all time. Sadly, he was never a highlighted star of a big name band and spent most of his career as an unheralded studio musician.
