One time, I was a Learning Support Assistant at a further education college. One of the students I worked with was from Venezuela, so his native language was, of course, Spanish. The student (who was autistic and also had a disability that meant he had limited use of his right arm and right leg) spoke better English than he would admit, but was prone to having outbursts in Spanish, and would often use Google Translate in class (even after I pointed out to him that Google Translate is very unreliable). I introduced him to a website called Wordreference, which is unsuitable for machine translating sentences, but might help him if he got stuck on a word. I hold A levels in both French and Spanish, and it was a website I used during my studies. The student got the shock of his life when he learned that I did Spanish up to A level, and knew Spanish as a result. He exclaimed "¡No es justo!" ("It's not fair!) My response was "¿Por qué no es justo?" ("Why is it not fair?") So yes, this student did have these outbursts in Spanish. Sometimes he would even swear in Spanish, and that meant that I had to remind him that I could understand what he was saying!

Dr. Williams is one of the few educational researchers who has covered the theory of lifelong learning. The most current research dates back to 1998. There is an extreme gap in the literature, as relate this most important theory, i.e., lifelong learning and the theory of continuous learning.

I am disappointed in the ageist comment coming from this man ‘any ‘old’ fool’. I would have thought someone of such education would recognise that he is using discriminatory language. Totally unacceptable.
