Great review. John Majors ‘Back to basics’ campaign was about the tories being the party of family values and morality. Minutes after be announced this initiative stories started appearing about the sexual depravity and/financial corruption of the tory party. It helped deliver Tony Blair a massive landslide in the 1997 election. Baxter Basics epitomised the corrupt and immoral tory mps of the time. He was only barely exaggerated.

I'd love a very detailed adult-oriented anime with the same sort of gut-wrenching space combat sequences you see in The Expanse (whatever Steve's opinions on the actual show!). Like fast-paced submarine combat where your fate lies mostly in hoping your computer processor is more steps ahead than the enemy's.

In a better universe, Erma Felna would have been a major media property all through the 90s and into the 00s, with several feature films, an animated series, and of course a detailed Japanese style toy line.

Wierdly enough I went to a comic con in Japan last week and one dude had an artbook with a sci-fi future soldier cat that was a dead spit of Steve Galacci's style! ...it was also the only completed illustration he had, the rest of his book was "framework" pose studies. Still, when he actually puts something together it ought to be good.

Awesome vid/review. Lol…yeah I wonder why it’s so easy to obtain North Korean books in Osaka… Fascinating and eclectic selection of books.
@worldcomicsreview3542 жыл бұрын
The Tsuruhashi area was an area for Korean labourers and later the "Zainichi" Koreans who got sort of stuck in Japan because there was no longer one "Korea" to go back to. A lot of them in the early years aligned with the north, because it was "anti imperialist" and, well, they'd just been the victims of imperialism and didn't like it much. Today the network of shotengai (it's a maze in there) and the nearby Ikuno Korea Town are full of South Korean cosmetics and K-pop, very few shops sell any books at all. But apparently back in the day it was full of North Korean propaganda stuff. Anyway a bunch of that is still drifting about the second hand book market, I suppose.

I really enjoyed this story, and the mystery. It might not seem that a comic about a chase would be exciting, since there's no true movement, but this worked very well. The pacing kept me engaged. I'm a big fan of Renzo Rodriguez's clean, smooth art style. He has great details on every panel, and everyone's faces are distinct. I hope Zack hires Renzo for more projects. Looking forward to the sequel for this.

I also "don't get" Narwal's art. Some people really like it, but it looks like scribbles to me. A few places in this book, I had to stop to figure out what I was looking at, which interrupts the flow of the story. Many years ago, I heard Johnny Depp likes to alternate movies.....one big blockbuster to keep the studio happy, then a weird artsy movie for his own creativity. That's how I see Zack. I think he likes his weird creative books for his personal side, and then he has the "blockbusters" like Jawbreakers and Iron Sights to keep his company profitable.

Cool finds I like them cassettes and mini cd single, how easy is it to find English translated manga/comics in Japan?
@worldcomicsreview3543 жыл бұрын
Not easy! Really big book shops in major cities might have a small section of English books, most are about the size of the typical graphic novels section in a Waterstones, only that's for all English books! I did recently find one with about half a floor of foreign-language books, though. Mostly English but also Chinese and French (Moebius in the original!). A lot of those sections are given over to English books for study, though, like simplified versions of stories that only use a certain "level" of vocabulary, based on various testing standards like IELTS and Toeic.

They are a bit samey, they start off like a Scandi noir, with some gruesome murder and no clues. Half the witnesses turn up dead too. Then they turn into Bond, when he gets captured by the baddies, and end up like Agatha Christie, when everybody gets called into the police chief's office so the killer can be exposed.

Hentai is porn manga, watch out for them ones! Manga is comics made in Japan, and anime is, in English, considered animation commissioned in Japan (though increasingly made cheaply by outsourcing), primarily for a Japanese audience. Though to Japanese people, any animation is "anime".
