Yep, the 17th, can’t wait. I need to watch The Boys. I watched the first few episodes when the first season came out but lost interest. It was a mood issue, not a show issue.

@popculturewithzara I'm enjoying the Boys...it's a funny criticism on politics, current events, and pop culture. As for House of the Dragon, I expect a classic Season 2.

House of the Dragon is so good. I think GRRM himself said to tell the story of the Dance you'd need about 4 seasons but I think there's plenty room to go beyond. My brother won't shut up about From. Fine, I'll check it out. I watched True Detective 1 when it came out as a teenager and its truly a fabulous single season of television. I couldn't make it past the first episode of Season 2 and never watched anymore of the show. Only shows I've been watching lately have been Doctor Who and i finally started Good Omens (only 2 episodes in and its fantastic). I'm not loving Doctor Who right now. I watched the series premiere with the first two episodes airing back-to-back. Episode 1 "Space Babies" was pretty cringe and Episode 2 "Devil's Chord" was really weird, and atmospheric but the 3rd act lost me. Maestro was an entertaining villain. I'm waiting for the series to wrap and I'll binge the remaining episodes, I've been told I'll like them. Ncuti Gatwa has been fantastic so far as the 15th Doctor.

You’re going to really like From, I think. Good decision to not watch beyond season one of True Detective. I’m genuinely so happy to Ncuti Gatwa is a great Doctor Who. Whilst I’ve never watched it, I know how beloved it is and I was worried about the responses to his performance. Seems like it’s all positive thus far!

It’s Osaka in the West vs Edo (Tokyo) in the East and both are built as Samurai Castle Towns…..Kyoto is the city for the Emperor and Nobles.

I read the book back in February in anticipation of this series. I still haven't watched it. I fully intend to but I get stuck into a book and tell myself I will watch the show tomorrow. Lather, rinse, repeat!😖 Thanks for refreshing and pumping up my enthusiasm again. I will watch! It makes me somewhat nervous that the showrunners are doing a season 2 and taking the story beyond the book. It reminds me of the hash the Game of Thrones tv creators made of it by going past where the books ended. In their defense, they needed to wrap up an incomplete series but in the case of Shogun, the story is done. Just walk away with your laurels of a job well done. Adapt Tai-Pan instead if you need to do more.

Yay, hope you like it! I think the great thing with this situation is they can follow actual historical events. A lot happened after Ieyasu became Shogun. I’m even hoping for a Musashi storyline but they’ll have to take some liberties as the timelines only slightly match up.

I wouldn't be nervous. Take the first season for what it is in all it's glory and consider everything else as extracurricular.

I would love a casting video, both an alternative ideal casting if time did not matter (for example: Say what you want about the Jodokowski attempt in the 70s, excellent documentary btw, but Orson Welles would in my mind have been an excellent Baron when he was alive!) and an alternative modern day casting!

Your positive review of Dune Messiah was the reason I subscribed to your channel. If you continue reading, I would like to see your reviews for Children of Dune and beyond. I disagree somewhat, as I enjoyed the additional layers added to Chani in the movie vs the film, and I am interested in how she will be used in Dune 3. I think the decision from Chani's perspective mirrors the broader religious/perspective division in the movie between the Fremen of the North and South. I think it raised deeper questions on the different perspectives of religion (orthodoxy vs progressive or other). I think the movie did a great job of pulling in non-readers to this world and the books. And this movie also brought in a new generation of fans. The books are complex and dense and as time goes on it seems fewer people read books like these. Hopefully with movies like these younger people might take a chance and dive into deeper sci-fi or other genres. I think Dune 2 is a contender for movie of the year in a year full of great movies. 2024 has a lot of heavy-hitting movies! I enjoyed your review and I am looking forward to seeing your other reviews on pop culture. (Im a huge Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon fan) so I'm curious to see your opinions on that series as well.

Will definitely read the next two. I don’t find Chani’s direction to be particularly original. It’s what I expect, which is what annoys me. Her characterisation, imo, is better in the book. Especially in a modern context. I do agree that I think this is a good entry way for folks who’ve never read the books. I hope they consider picking them up as I really don’t think they captured the vastness of this world in the movie. Thanks Raf, glad to have you hear! I’m excited to rewatch House of the Dragon season 1. Will likely do a video on it :)

I haven’t read the book and I was preoccupied with family while it was on tv. I was never drawn into the movie other than at a few moments, fight scenes etc. My thinking was; is it because of the distractions or if it was a better film wouldn’t everyone else be glued to it? I also sorta thought Chani should have been able to bear the marriage proposal as a political maneuver rather than a personal one. Other than that it was just a movie to me. The only movie on my radar is the Deadpool movie. Yes it’s a rockem sockem type movie but with a character like Deadpool, who knows he’s a comic book superhero, they should have plenty there to play with. So far they’ve done well. (If he wants to do a silent/not silent movie he should do “The Legend of Conan” lol. In Conan: The Barbarian” the musical score carries the movie and it’s a great movie. Almost no lines for 25-30 mins. Too much dialogue killed Conan the Destroyer lol.)

Yeah, completely agree on Chani. I think the reason why folks drop interest or get distracted is because it’s soooooo slow. Didn’t need to be. Could have easily been a 3 hour epic rather than a five hour drawn out mess. I need to watch the old Conan movie!
