Sure....I tend to stick with E and A, because if I'm playing my 4th (D) string open then I'm restricting my noodley bits to the top three strings. Blues in A works well, as then you have the open A, D and E strings for the I, IV and V chords. Thanks for commenting :)

Damn man I had to get to a 2012 video to get my Ahah moment. Finally someone that put it easy enough out there. The whole lessons on mods out there are so weirdly done that you get the impression you need to learn nuclear physics first in order to grasp the modes and how to use them. This guy comes and say: Major scale - you take that move it by one note each time and you get a different mode. use that to get other flavour. say you play in C and want to sound Phrygian play the major scale from E to E. Thank you man. Greeting from 2020 LOL.

your not giving any context which makes this useless its all just the major scale without context
@RobinMayGuitar
@RobinMayGuitar 4 жыл бұрын
Well, I guess I assumed that folks would search KZbin for backing tracks in A dorian, B phrygian etc so the backing they chose would provide the context. There are backing tracks in various modes on my web site and one of my students pulled together the following be playlist of backing tracks in all the modes relating to G major. If I can help with any specific questions then please don't hesitate to ask: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5vSfaWAbap1q5I

There are so many different ways to approach learning the modes, depending on the individual. I didn't get it until I became a teacher (of graphics, not music) and I set about teaching my Self as if I was teaching a different person. I went into creating the graphics and making up mnemonics so that I would remember. I found that going right back to basics helped me so much. Unfortunately there are many guitar teachers trying to explain this and doing a bad job. Thank goodness for people like Robin, but my advice FWIW is to try writing out your own notes (no pun intended) and you'll get it, but in your own individual way.
