A lot of people forget that Stefan used to have fun with women in exact same way. Or that Caroline herself toyed with Liam... Most will justify Caroline and Stefan by saying they had their humanity off but also did Damon. The humanity switch applies for each human emotion, so there's a state where a vampire has some emotions on. Damon used to be in this state most of the time and Stefan called him out because of this, telling him that this behavior was destructive and that if you turn your humanity on, you have to embrace every emotion and not just the ones you're comfortable with... So, if you don't forgive or understand Damon, you really shouldn't do it with the rest of the vampire characters. They all did terrible things.

Damon had three reasons for choosing Caroline. He had an attraction to Liz back when he killed Gail, he wanted to get a seat on the council, and he wanted a friendship with Elena. Caroline is shallow like Katherine, so this was easy for Damon.

If fiction can make people happy, it can also make people upset. Allow people to feel how they feel when digesting anything, fiction or nonfiction. You can't just expect people to feel no emotion about what they're watching just because you seemingly don't.

When something happens (good or bad) to one of my favorite characters, I do feel something. Maybe I feel like people were/are overreacting because between Damon and Caroline, I like Damon better. Also, I made this comment a year ago according to the time stamp. It's possible that I view things differently now. I don't know why I said, "It's a fucking show!!!!" because like music, I enjoy tv shows. I have shows that make me happy. Again, this comment was made a year ago. Why am I explaining myself to a stranger on the internet? I do not know. lol

Therefore, people are allowed to reply to it at any given time lol as you said, we're strangers to each other so there's no way I would know what your view point is as of today. As far as the topic of Damon and Caroline goes, I don't think people are "overreacting". People are simply reacting to what's being shown to them, which is abuse. Coming from someone who has been abused, watching dynamics such as Damon and Caroline's can be triggering. So its possible that there are others with that type of experience who're able to see it for what it is. You can have a favorite character and love them to the moon and back, but it's okay to acknowledge when your favorite character does something bad instead of being defensive and dismissive of their actions and towards people who're willing to call them out. I do hope that within this past year, you've been able to grow and recognize that.
