For God’s sake, Hays didn’t know what a publicity stunt is.He couldn’t understand how a publicity stunt could affect his life. The flag raising is filmed for publicity stunt to raise money for the war…He couldn’t deal with the misleading and deceiving of the American people…

i believe this > there is but ONE God...ONE Creator and ONE Son of God/ONE Christ...and from God the Father stems His 'holy spirit' which is His 'voice/intent/laws/ordinances/power"... that God family: The Father and Son who are 'one'... will be straightening up this whole world in the Father's perfect time.. Christ will be sent back here and with Him will come His 'governement' which is the Kingdom of God. Ira Hayes, like every one else who have ever died or who are still living...will be judged according to what they have done in his / their lives... there's no doubt in my mind Ira Hayes will be GREATLY rewarded ...particularly for his COURAGE. Right here on this earth, after it's renewed to its original state and Christ has His government in order... Ira will be introduced to where God wants Him to be and doing / living the way God wants of Him... xx we all will. There's no sense to pretend we can know for sure ...all we can do now is to do exactly what Christ '''commanded"'..>> love one another.

I absolutely 'hate' the brand ''drunken'' in Mr Hayes' life... EVERY man or woman I have ever known how fought in wars tipped a glass now and then and yes, they let themselves get drunk from time to time too... they...meaning: every nationality known to man. Don't listen to the bs and prejudice of movies and lies ... I know of many Native American and Native Canadian ''people'' who are and who were raised with sound, respect and HONOR for family / their God / and others. I have no time in my life to bother with prejudice persons. none.

As a Dine’ (formerly known as Navajo) weaver, the figure in the center of the rug represents a deity or a god. Dine’ people have many gods. This being was a warrior and is depicted in many ways which should never have been. It is a taboo to recreate. As earthly beings, we know this deity as Yeibichei. As a spiritual being he is known as Monster Slayer. It is almost considered a crime to recreate the deity. So much so as to the Dine’ woman saying she would like to know who wove the rug. Also to determine when a rug was made, check out the warp. Is it, wool, store-bought, yarn, etc.? The color was has a meaning for time. There was a time when the color red was unknown. Figures started appearing on rugs at a certain time in history also. Most of our rugs were just lines like the Mexican serapes. The lines that run out into the border is very important. Every weaver is taught to “not close in” themselves mentally. Opinion: A Dine’ female would not marry out of the tribe (during that era 1500-1800’s), only under duress. I agree the weaver was coerced to weave such a rug with that figure. As to the swastikas, they are whirling logs. They represent the beginning of life on earth when the air was a gas, nilchi dyin, also a god or deity. Only until the Germans adopted the symbol, it became a negative thing. For great sums of money, I would never weave a rug with a sacred deity. It is so sacred that if one was to do so, it would result in harm, hence the early death of Yanabah who wove such rugs. Also the colors of the figures, either black or white has meaning. Monster Slayer had a twin brother. Either one could be depicted in the rug. The numbers of feathers have meaning also. For example, the deity, Talking God has twelve. Woman had two. The figure in the rug could be Talking God.

I know Ira Hayes is a Marine. I know Ira Hayes is a Pima. I know Ira is an American. I know Ira Hayes raised the large flag on Iwo. I know the United States Marines, and Corpsmen that fought in the Pacific are the greatest men that ever walked the face of this earth.

Thank you so much for posting this presentation. As many Chandlerites will likely comment, I attended the community get together the night of the fight & can remember wandering thru the stands (as a 14-year-old) awaiting the periodic, round-by-round updates. Mayor Nader & family lived across Tulsa street from my family; his son David was my best boyhood friend. Zora, Jr. (who, as I recall looked a great deal like his dad), was certainly well known around Chandler by those of us about his age. While I was certainly aware of the population growth of the ensuing 53 years, I was struck by Nate's comparison that the population of Chandler in the 1960's was less than the number of employees Intel now has in the east Valley. A very few years ago I heard former Intel CEO Craig Barrett speak of having worked with Jack & Barbara Bogle to purchase the land on which the 1st Intel plant was built.

amazing and thank you.. I am Mvskoke and a US marine, I cannot think of trying to explain myself red, yellow, black or white, (not actually in that order) it is hard to imagine that ira,, who is known as a marine corps hero to all of us had to go thru so much … and in the 40s ...it puts it so much more in perspective.. I always saw him as a hero even with the songs … I just knew he was estakate and was like me... but now I know so much more. thank you for sharing this..
