Hello. I’m just wondering how far up from the hatchery is this spot. I understand if you don’t want to share but if you would be willing that would be incredible.

I think I figured out a better way, for me, to do your process. I just overlap the two pieces holding ends in either hand, and crank in the twists with a toothpick. Could be a wood match. Seems easier with the lighter lines, and I don't have to stage it between the fingers, I just grab ahold of it with both hands. Plus the toothpick keeps the hole in the middle open. Once both ends are through, I take it out. Good thing is that if I don't have a manipulator, no problem, just go back to your method.
@AZFlyShopАй бұрын
I usually can’t find a manipulator when I’m out fishing👍

So two other things bothered me about this approach. 1) it seems to waste a lot of material. But it turns out that if once the knot is formed, one holds it by the tag, and pulls on that tag's running line, the waste can be reduced to just the material that is required to seat the knot. ( and sure, I am probably the only person who cares about a few inches of line. It's Canada, and I never know where my next purchase of FF gear is going to come from...); This is a biggie. I figured that the real BK has the threads/winds in such a way that they look like a continuous wrap, it felt elegant and balanced and the only reason we are doing it this way is to make a pretty easy knot, easier. Well... After tying a half dozen knots, I think this one may lie better, in the heavy stuff, the barrel sides are straight through, and no bend, and the tags (they get cut off, of course) are straight through, not 185 on one side, and 175 on the other. I certainly don't see anything to worry about.

@HondoTrailsideАй бұрын
Oh, there is one disadvantage with this method, you have equal amounts on both sides. Most people who use this knot to build leaders realize you get a better result with dissimilar weights of material, if you have fewer wraps on the heavy side. I have seen guides tie with one wrap on the heavy side, and two on the light. I never have a reason to join similar number of wraps, or equal weight of material. In theory you could slip a wrap, but it would be like playing cat's cradle.

@@AZFlyShop I tied a few and I realized 3 new things, you know, 50 years since tying my first blood knot. You can easily reduce the turns on one side, so this is not problem. I can almost tie a regular knot as fast, but I can't. I will do the other two above.
@HondoTrailsideАй бұрын
Brilliant. However, go the full mile. You don't have a blood knot there. On a blood knot, the line does not reverse direction at the intersection, it is like a screw with one direction all the way. Your knot is left handed on one side, and right handed on the other. So if you invented this method, and it works just as well as a blood knot, you should name it after yourself, or your dog, and have the glory.

Awesome shortcut but the strength comes from lubricating the knot. Stick it in your mouth for a second and it adds several pounds of breaking strength. Kudos!

I use my forceps to tie this knot but never thought of using them to hold the hook while threading it. Excellent suggestion, thank you. A quick question. More times than not I’ll use the 16-20 knot over the clinch knot. I’ve never had any problems with either I simply like the size of the 16-20 plus the fact it clicks when tied properly as you cinch it down. What are your thoughts comparing the two knots? Thanks in advance. Wes

OF LINE PINCH STANDING AND WORKING END TOGETHER LET GO OF R-CLIPS SPIN THE CLIP WITH A FLICK OF A FINGER LIGHTLY AND COUNT HOW MANY WRAPS STOP.NOW LET GO OF STANDING LINE AND GIVE WORKING LINE A GOOD TUG (WHILE HOLDING HEMOS) TO OPEN THE LOOP AT THE EYE OF THE HOOK. MOISTEN KNOT TIGHTEN KNOT........U WILL NEVER TIE THE CLINCH KNOT ANY OTHER WAY... ESPECIALLY THE MIDGE SIZE HOOKS ! I must admit…I’ve seen and attempted other ways of tying this knot & failed. This method, however, I have succeeded several times. Like you said it just takes practice and make sure there is plenty of line. Short lines will not work especially if one has big hands. Fortunately, I have small hands, so this method appears to be my choice. Thanks for the tutorial. 👍🏽

One of cool things is how relaxed you are. I have also hated tying this knot and to be honest I’ve never ran into a scenario wear I actually needed it but it’s a knot that bugged me since I was 28 and it’s time for it to shit it’s pants when it hears I’m coming. And now it does. I can’t tie it as fast as you guys but it’s tied correctly and it looks good and it’s never broken on me so I’m game! Thank you so much for this tutorial, I will look forward to seeing more!!!!!
