Just make a plate out of a Teflon rod and use a ceramic bearing. That will cut your friction way down..granted the Teflon isn't going to last 30 years. More like 10-15 years. You don't have to oil Teflon or ceramic bearing....

I own a Sony PS-X600 Biotracer fitted with an Ortofon X5-MC. A few months ago, I had purchased a lightly used Technics SL-1200M3D fitted with a Shure V15VxMR for what I believe to be an absolute bargain. That turntable also came with a box full of stuff, including a new-in-the-box Shure VN35MR stylus. All of that for about $300. I have just recently purchased a Shure V15 Type III and I will fit it on my PS-X600 and install the stylus cartridge as soon as it comes in. I'll also be aligning that cartridge using the Shure protractor that came with the V15VxMR. The box full of stuff that came with my SL-1200 also came with the V15VxMR packaging and accessories.

My son is professional trombone player I have listened to him play so many live concerts. Point being the first recording brings across all the warmth of the musician on the end of that instrument. THe second recording to me anyway sounded a little cold and detached if that makes sense.

Great advise. I'm helpless, though: whenever I try to fix the arm again, the washer never stays in place and falls down. Maybe I do it completely wrong? Any advise highly welcome!

Nice one. I'd enjoy to watch how to mount a new cartridge on the gl75 headshell in all steps. Thanks

My first component turntable in 1975 was a BIC-920 with included (mounted) Shure M75ECS pickup. Considering the cheesy-ness of the budget BIC, the M75 was quite impressive. I became a Shure guy. Got a Pioneer PL-518 in 1979 and mounted an M91ED, later added an extra headshell with an M95ED. Kept both and upped to the HE stylus in 1980's. Many good pickup brands then; Empire, Grado, ADC, Pickering, to name a few. For me, I'm sure it's Shure.

Okay... I can hear a difference. However , having read up on your website I am wondering exactly what the differences are between the bearings... for instance: do you use the same base plate arrangement for both? i.e. do the bearings both sit on a plastic "(sort of) PVC sheet? or do you use your silver plate in the second example? or in both examples? It seems to me that there are several variables possible. Is it not possible that the very act of changing the bearings from an old stainless one to a new system can have an effect on the sound? So... try the TC bearing on the (original) PVC and compare the sound then try both on the silver plate... who knows ... it may be the silver that makes the difference. As for which I like best... this juror is out... I would need to hear more examples and more rigorous testing. As we always teach the children in school science.. it must be a fair test.

I agree my son is a professional trombonist lost count on how many concerts sessions I have sat in on.jazz blues classical and yes the original rubber to me appears to bring out more the emotion of the player the brass sounds like a Chinese player.they are known for their precision of playing but devoid of emotion robotic or digital as you say.

Thank you for the comparison test. Good KZbin recording, music source great performance and a great piece of recording, by a great violinist and conductor. I personally enjoy the one with the silver washers. More transparent, and more musical, with dynamics and good bass control. BTW, please improve you soldering techniques! ✌️🤩

Very nice video. Very important you keep it simple for me. I am not expert! So I understand what you do and I can see HOW you do it. Very good. Thank you. I would like to tell you of a very good British company called DYNATRON. You can find in UK and maybe in Hong Kong/Singapore. Record/ Radio /Cassette system used by the Queen in 1960/70s. Many people in UK throw these away so can buy cheap and many have Lenco 75 and 78 deck. Please check on E Bay UK. Now people understand how good these are and price now go up. Please look now.

Wonderful video, I really like this man. I'd change the tone arm though, I've got a Linn basik Plus wich purists say is a bad choice, but much better than the original. That's a beautiful plinth.

Okay this is funny. But it’s detrimental. Try reducing the effective tonearm mass instead of making it heavier.

While I agree with you that the originals sound better on this occasion, it's probably wise to not lose sight of the fact that with mass-produced hifi components like the GL75 there is nearly always an opportunity for a simple improvement because they were built to a price, with sometimes literally a penny/cent making the difference considering parts were manufactured in tens of thousands.
