Seriously Sayaa, beautiful voice and all, but you need to stop being so angry, ma fillle. I understand the injustice the Creole people have suffered in the history of Mauritius especially within my own family; I am British-Mauritian and very proud of my Creole heritage, and that is the thing, Mauritian Creoles, and there’s a lot of us around the world and we do celebrate our rich culture, music, dance and especially our food. I was raised by a very strong Mauritian-Creole mother and although her childhood was in poverty, my mother always told us how even in poverty they had a very strong family built by strong Creole women and what it was to be Creole, the unity and even the spirituality of what is was to be a Creole. I find my Creole identity a privilege. Even though my family are now deceased, I’m still sharing the honour of being a Mauritian Creole to my nieces and nephews and their children. Listening to Sayaa’s singing is uplifting and makes me prouder still for the Mauritian-Creoles making successes of their life, but please stop with the anger. Raise yourself to be the best of who you are, and through your success the Creole culture will live on and be celebrated, just as our ancestors wanted for us.
