Does doing this affect the amount of travel of both front and back shocks, though?

For you short people like myself who is 5'4 I've ridden a KTM 300 XCW which I recently traded it in for a Sherco 300 SE. Both these dirt bikes are little over 37 inches. I cannot even get my feet on the ground, things that helped are shaving the seat down and adjusting the preload. I can now get one foot down and that is enough for me. It's even easier when om the trails because the surfaces tend to be higher than the streets. If you're still not comfortable look into the XT225, XT250, or TW200

im interested in having my 2005 wr450f lowered like this. do you guys sell the parts to make it happen or do i need to send you stuff to be modified?
@D2319912 жыл бұрын
Its actually the entire reason I don't already have one. It can be engineered. I think I might get a Honda 450, and what I've seen is that the air box and battery are under the seat, which greatly contributed to the seat height. My inseam is 28 inches and the 450 comes with a 37 inch seat height. Link will take off 1 inch, that's it. Then you still need a custom spring. This bike here looks like it barely has any travel. It'd probably be less of a hassle to build a frame from scratch. Also trying not to compromise the ground clearance. It can be done its not too much. We've been to the moon you guys, we can lower a dirt bike 11 inches while maintaining travel, suspension characteristics, and clearance.

Can a person order all the parts on the bike to make it street legal ? Can you add a parts list ?
@EarthSurferUSA4 жыл бұрын
You lost 1/3rd of your suspension travel, and 4" of ground clearance. Not good for serious trail riding or any kind of off road racing out side of flat track racing, but if you put street tires on it, it might be perfect for our pot hole strewn roads. At 5'8.5" tall, and having bikes before they were made tall, (because of the taller 4-stroke engine, and due to magazine pressure to "update the chassis" of the 2-strokes, the 2-strokes followed the silly height.), I am lowering mine to a tad lower than my old 97 KX250, (which was a wonderful bike). I need it lower so I am having the rear suspension .9" lower and the front .75" lower, with a lowering link, (PR2 racing in PA.), a adjustable sub-frame, (PR2 modifies yours), the stiffer rear spring, (to get the proper free sag) and fork springs, (PR2 racing) and 1" cut off the seat, ("JB sport trim" in Gowen MI.). I am lowering the fender by about 2", the front by .75", (remember the suspension stroke loss difference is only .15"), the seat height by 2.5", and the ground clearance by just under 1". I need the bike lowered, but I also want to hammer the most whooped out trails in Michigan.
@EarthSurferUSA2 жыл бұрын
Well, I changed that set up. .75 off each end, and 1" off the seat, (went back to the stock pull link, because the lowering link will let the tire hit the fender harder if bottoming out.). Now, it is ready to hammer the rough stuff and handle like it should.

same here. I own a 2001 Wr250f and I am tippy-toeing on one foot. I was just going to throw a lowering link on it, but after watching that I might think about doing this myself.

I don’t get the appeal presonally. I’m not especially tall at about 5’7.5 at 16yrs old but I have no trouble getting on off and maneuvering my CR250 with it’s 36 (I think) inch seat height. Just learn how to ride it. Incidentally, I have a 97 where lowing the forks actually improved the overall handling because of a engineering issue, but most bikes don’t have that problem
@EarthSurferUSA4 жыл бұрын
I just bought a slightly used YZ250 2-stroke, and my last bikes as a 97 also, a KX250. The 2-stroke bikes were lower in 97 and before, (probably up to 2005 for Yamaha, when they went to the aluminum frame for their 2-strokes). Here is what I think happened. The 4-strokes came out in the market, and they had to be taller because of the extra height of the head, (with the valves). At the same time, old school guys who grew up with the sport and ran the magazines were retiring, and the mags hired a bunch of people who think the MX world started turning when the 4-stroke came out. The magazines begged the remaining 2-stroke manufactures to "Update the chassis", so the factories made the 2-strokes about the same height as the 4-strokes. I am 5'8.5", and believe me, this new YZ is UN-ride-able for me. But I am not lowering my bike like this guy did, (would not be good for the whooped out trails i want to hammer on), but I do have to lower it to make the bike as enjoyable as my 97KX250 was, (which was the tallest of the 4 250mx bikes I owned before the KX). With these new bikes so tall, IMO anybody under 5'10" would ride better if they had theirs lowered.

it would have been nice to have an original bike and the lowered bike next to one another, also knowing the cost of the conversion would allow those thinking about getting their bikes lowered could see if they could justify the price
@EarthSurferUSA4 жыл бұрын
My guess is the stock bike would be 4" taller. :) I am having my suspension for a 2019 YZ250 2-stroke lowered a bit at PR2 racing, and it is around $450.00 with no valving changes. I would not care if it costs $2,000.00,---because this YZ is stupid high for me and UN-ride-able for a 5'9" guy.
