I am disappointed at the lack of fundamental respect Mark shows in talking about the family who came to him for help. Exaggeration and hyperbole used for effect may have a place in down-home style storytelling, but to describe a family unit as "robots" (even mimicking robotic arm movements, which clearly was an exaggeration - how do you think these people would feel if they saw this video?), to say that the horses moved away from the family as fast as they could (seriously, Mark? They sprinted at full gallop?), and the part about the horse defecating on the client's shoes, twice, where the dad didn't try to get the manure off his shoes? - all told in the context/premise of a case study - these are indicators of a so-called helping professional who is very judgmental and who will make negative characterizations of his client in order to tell a funnier story, who will make careless deviations from reporting objective data if he thinks it will illustrate his point better. This tall tale actually discredits the field of equine therapy, in my opinion, as the author's favorite horse 's supernatural gastrointestinal powers are fantastically related, and the author's disrespect toward clients drags on. I think Mark Lytle should spend some time augmenting his concept of therapy, clinical ethics (in relating to clients and also reporting on outcomes) and tenets of the therapeutic relationship (primarily the trust, respect and confidentiality aspects) before professing to write and promote a book about how therapy can be transformed. If therapy is in fact being transformed by horses, I hope this process is not being influenced by misguided horse enthusiasts like Mark Lytle.

These are wonderful programs. I wish we had programs like this in the inner cities also. Many people there have PTSD just from living in those environments. Programs like these could cut anger and crime by 90%. Thank you for making and sharing this video. Horses are the most healing of animals.

I had heard there was an incredible video with a veteran and a horse and knew in time it would appear. I KNOW the veteran's experience first hand. Before I ever heard of Eagala, I had a similar personal experience with my Arabian stallion in a pasture with his mares. Quick background: I resided in areas classified by the US State Dept as hazardous areas and active combat zones beginning with the Balkans in Bosnia in 1998. In 2003 my base of Operations moved to Iraq & Kuwait (my time was split flying in between the two countries every 3-4 days) with trips to Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Djibouti, Turkey, Dubai and other areas to include areas of conflict as required. I worked for a Defense Contractor supporting the US Army - I am an ex-military wife. I am a breast cancer survivor (I went through chemo & radiation while continuing to support the troops in theater. I am a Viet Nam era woman. I was very senior when I was overseas and dealt with a lot of losses and feelings personally that are mentioned in the video - again - this is before I had even heard of Eagala - around midnight on a full moon I walk out into the pasture where my Arabian stallion and 3 mares were - I do not cry - nor had I for over a decade...and I hear thundering hooves and it is the stallion that heard me enter the pasture. He stops a few feet back - I am standing still looking at him - his eyes never left mine - he walked up slowly and put his forehead against mine - then I buried my head in his neck and before I realized it, I was sobbing - this stallion was shot in the neck as a yearling - severed his neck muscle and grazed his vertebrae - he has permanent scars on his back legs from being down in fencing after being shot and bleeding out for hours before he was found - he was not supposed to survive the night. Obviously he did - I bought him when he was 3 and no one could touch the area where his wound was....my arms were wrapped around his neck just below the scars...he put his head around my back and pulled me in to his chest - and held me for about 3 minutes - by then I was able to control my breathing and had stopped crying and he lifted his head, touched his forehead to mine then raised his head and breathed directly into my face...then he gently took his nose and pushed me back and he stepped back - he snorted as Arabians do and sort of nodded and I started to laugh....I swear I could hear him say, put your big girl panties on - you got this. It was like a weight lifting off my shoulders as he stepped back and ran back to his herd and I walked back in the house - and acknowledged to myself that God had sent me a message through my stallion that night...Fast forward - I learned of Eagala, I became a certified Equine Specialist in 2015. I have approx 70 horses on the ranch and I work with challenged people with an emphasis on Special Olympic equestrians and work with disabled veterans and their families and surviving family members of deceased veterans with an emphasis on combat veterans. I apologize for writing such a long comment - but wanted you to understand that from someone who has and continues to be in the same head space as this veteran - often - this is an extraordinary and powerful video. Thank you!

just a friendly warning here, if you are looking for an equine therapist or trainer DO NOT contact Alane Freund. she has a history of mentally abusing her clients and horses. Just trying to warn people before more get hurt.

Operation Horse and veterans programming needs funding! We have more veterans seeking services than we have funders. Frustrating when the VA has millions of dollars marked for "alternative mental health" and none of it can be applied to EAP for lack of Evidence Based Research. Hopefully the research project that we spearheaded for 9 months with Columbia University (now being done at another program in NJ) will be completed and successful to show the viability of EAP/EAT and therefore help us ALL find the funding dollars needed to save lives! :)

Help bring Texas Longhorn home to Israel. Why are you allowing attacks on our ranches, cattle and people? Why are you allowing our pasture to be stolen? Why are you allowing our ranchers to continue with European cattle that don't fit Israel desert environment? Texas Longhorn are desert cattle, they fit Israel’s hostile desert environment. They are used in America hostile deserts of Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado. Texas Longhorn came from the Black Sea 5 to 15,000 years ago. They first went East toward China, then turn back West going though the great hostile deserts of the Middle East. Arriving in what is now Israel split into two directions North toward Europe and South toward Africa. In 1400 or 1500, Cortez brought a very few to Mexico Texas Southern Border Semi Desert Area. By, 1856, they had grown into millions of Texas Longhorn Cattle starting America’s cattle industry and helped built America. So help bring these cattle home to Israel. We need $275,000 to start. A nominal donation of $250 from 1100 generous supporters will get us started. longhornproject.org Robin Rosenblatt M.Sc.
