Why did you not completely cross the line when overtaking the first cyclist? If there wasn't a clear sight line to allow you to fully cross the line then you shouldn't have overtaken them

Apparently, Val Thorens is a Cat 1 climb. They added the last 500meters to the climb, to have it upgraded to a “HC” climb.
@fredlast45475 жыл бұрын
That was a long drag to the finish line. Just when you thought you had done all the climbing you were going to do they throw in a bit extra at the end.

No not him there are two cyclists in the video. Go to1:44..the cyclist coming towards me? Look closely....VERY closely.

I'd have never spotted him without your pointer! No front light or high viz.

South Wirral Cyclist The video does create a bit of a false impression though as this is only 10 minutes before sunrise and it all looks very dark. I don't believe that what we see in the video is akin to what was visible to the naked eye. That being said the cyclist should clearly have been lit up better. Interestingly the laws on when to turn on your lights are different for bicycles and cars. Whilst a motorist has to have his lights on only between the 'hours of darkness' (half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise), cyclists must have their lights on when the sun is below the horizon. That's an extra hour every day that motorists can drive around with their lights off compared to cyclists.

To be fair he was easier to spot with the naked eye. The sun was just rising at the time and it makes the sky bright and everything else darker. The "invisible" cyclist was wearing a hi-viz "waistcoat", but it was flapping in the wind behind him like a cape, because he didn't close the buttons on the front. I only spotted him at the last minute due to the reflectors on the pedals of his bike. I posted the video to highlight how important it is to use lights and not to depend on a hi viz jacket alone.

Legally I don't think he requires lights as it was within 30 minutes of sunrise. I'm not in favour of using lights in daylight, but on my commute 8-8.45am I would use lights at this time of year. Many high viz jackets use a velcro fastening and over time the little hooks get clogged up with fluff and the fastening blows open in use!

South Wirral Cyclist As we both agree lights are always a good idea. Here the cyclist was legally required to have lights though. www.cyclinguk.org/cyclists-library/regulations/lighting-regulations

I assume you mean the one at 1:30. He has two rear lights and is wearing a high viz jacket. What do you suggest he adds? He's not difficult to see!

Thanks for that Al. I have a Polar V650 bike computer and a GoPro. Do you think the Garmin software as per your link will do the needful or does the bike computer have to be a Garmin? Rgds, Rob.
@07lapierre8 жыл бұрын
wadirunner yes it should work fine...download the software (it's free) and give it a go. It's very easy to use and very intuitive. There also quite a few tutorials on KZbin which show you how it's done ( although I doubt you'll have any difficulty)

Hello. Nice video. I'm interested to know what bit of kit/software you used to get the cycling info in white to appear on the video? It looks as if it was synched in real time throughout your cycle. The speedometer in the left corner is a very nice touch. For the cadence info, did you have some sort of sensors on your pedals? The elevation chart is nifty too. Fair play. Did you shoot the footage with a GOPRO? Regards.

You need 3 things.. 1. A bike computer to record the data (speed, distance, elevation etc.) 2. A video camera (i use a GoPro Session) 3. Garmin Virb Software to sync the data to the video. ( www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591 ) Yeah its pretty nifty alright and quite easy to do. The hard bit is the actual cycling! :)
