Not quite sure how this particular area is in summer. But in general tromso is amazing and I can just imagine that it’s all beautiful to experience! I know people book these trips in summer as well and it looks amazing. I just haven’t done it myself. Maybe I’ll do that this coming summer and I will post about it 😊

Personally I think it works better if you use hypersmooth first.. Hypersmooth uses hundreds of frames per second to smooth out the footage whereas Gyroflow can only use the frames available in the final footage, so usually 30 or 60 frames per second. So, personally, for best results I use hypersmooth then Gyroflow.
@PetterHetland4 ай бұрын
Gyroflow doesn’t use the frames. It uses the gyrodata from the gopro. Same thing hypersmooth does but without giving you the freedom to reframe in post. So using hypersmooth removes your possibility of reframing for vertical on the 8:7 image which is very nice compared to hypersmooths 4k 16:9 image. But as long as you see it work perfectly for you then that is what matters. I saw no clear effect when using gyroflow on image stabilized with hypersmooth. So this all is why I recommend filming open gate on the gopro and utilizing gyroflow to stabilize with the gyrodata instead of using the frame tracking mode seen in most other software or using hyper smooth which leaves little room in post production 😊
@mattw41764 ай бұрын
@@PetterHetland it does use the gyro data yes. But it only has a certain amount of frames to use as a source ie 30 or 60 per second usually. The way hypersmooth works is that it takes hundreds of frames per second to smooth it. So just the math itself tells you it's better to smooth it using hyper smooth first and then used gyro flow to after. But whatever works for you is cool. Im just trying to help
@PetterHetland4 ай бұрын
@mattw4176 ok cool. I told you of the downfalls of using in camera stabilization for the gopro. Using hypersmooth is not as good. Just ask anyone using gopro for fpv. Your information is sadly false and you have not understood how the gopro works. And, no. Gyroflow does not use any frames. It is stated on the webpage. It would not be as fast if it used motion tracking from the frames. Motion tracking with images is way more taxing than the gyrodata used by gyroflow. That is why gyroflow is extremely fast and why it can even stabilize aerial footage where there is only blue sky or extreme motion blur. Hypersmooth does not use hundreds of frames to stabilize either. It uses gyro data from the gopro. Having instant feedback and playback on stabilization would not work if the small computer in the gopro used frames for information. A gyroscope gives instant feedback while algorithms in the software read this and compensates for it by cropping from the original 8:7 frame that the gopro has. That is why you can’t see the whole frame of 8:7 when using these functions because gopro needs to crop the image. The algorithm in the gopro is good but it is not as good as the algorithm and computer in Gyroflow. Comparing images I filmed on my bike trip I see a huge difference in quality between the two. Since hypersmooth often gave me a skewed and weird image where gyroflow is basically perfect. No consumer or prosumer camera today can read hundreds or even 30-60 frames per second and stabilize it instantly and show it on the backscreen like you think the gopro does. Thanks for trying to help, but it’s not helpful. And very misleading. Please stop spreading false and wrong information on my channel. I was nice once but any more comments about this effect will be deleted unless you can admit that you have miss understood how stabilization works in modern tech. Thank you. Ps: I will not reply to any more comments in this thread and I will delete the comment if you try to still spread wrong information.

@@PetterHetland Ok fair enough, as you said I mis understood how it works and apologies for that.. I will try it without hypersmooth and if it is even better then I thank you for this interaction because you have helped me improve it even more

@mattw4176 no problem at all brother. I was more worried you were just arguing to argue with me, and for no reason. Never a problem to discuss stuff and I am sorry if I sounded rude. Just trying to help people here get better results and sometimes I get a bit invested. Hope you find a great way to work with your gopro. And if that is using hypersmooth first then that is perfect for you and all you need. Wish you good luck man and thank you for watching my video and discussing with me. Talking to people here gives me a lot of happiness. Glad I did not scare you away.

@PetterHetland11 ай бұрын
@@felixchao2113 happy to reply! You’ll be there just before polar night which starts on 7. desember. But there will be almost no noticeable difference as at that time the days will be very short already. But it’s always best in my opinion to explore when you have some daylight. The chances of seeing the northern lights will at least be higher when the night is so long 😊

Mate that is very cool, what tripod you using in this shoot, I really have to give this a go lol
@PetterHetland Жыл бұрын
Thanks Phil, glad you liked it! And thanks for tagging me on Instagram, that's very cool! loved the shot! Well for this shot I was using my extremely big and heavy old tripod which I wouldn't recommend to anybody just because of how big and bulky it is. Unless you plan to try this with a cinema rig then I have two other recommendations instead. amzn.to/3vHc167 - This is a lighter travel tripod from Sirui that is very similar to the one I use now, but mine is a bit older. amzn.to/3SmdxmN - This is what I would like to have myself now, a bit more expensive but still not too expensive. These are both travel tripods so they take less space when packing. The one I used in the video is amazing and sturdy, but I have ended up using it less and less because of it's size and only using it in extreme conditions or when I have filmed with a full camera rig which gets a bit top heavy. but most of the time I use my $250 travel tripod that is no longer in production. The tripod in this video cost about $500... Also, just want to point out that the links to amazon are affiliate, so if you use them I might get 2-4% commission on what you buy without it costing you extra. It's not a lot, but it helps me a bit :) Hope this helps and please feel free to ask any other questions! And tag me again if you go out shooting more of these photos! :D

Thanks for the video, that was exactly what I wanted to see! Have you ever experienced fireworks and northern lights at the same time? I was wondering if it would be worth a try. And I'm nowhere near, so I can't just head to Fjellheisen in a few days just in case. I have to fly to Tromso first... And yeah, I know there's no way to know for sure if the Lights will show up.
@PetterHetland Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Glad you liked it! I have only experienced that one new years eve, since as you say, it depends on the weather. But I have only celebrated new years eve in Tromsø 3 times, so 1/3 isn’t too bad I think. But the northern lights don’t need fireworks as I think fireworks and explosions just ruin the beautiful show that is the aurora. So aim to see them when it’s not new years eve, that’s my tip! 😊
@ThomasParis Жыл бұрын
@@PetterHetland Thanks! And I have experienced the Lights several times before. Even photographed them. I was just wondering if I could make something interesting, combining them with fireworks. But I hear what you say and would probably agree that the Lights are wonderfully peaceful and not too compatible with the explosive show of the fireworks.

@ThomasParis ah, well I’m sure it would look amazing mixed with fireworks, just that the chances are slim since there’s only fireworks on 1 day of the year in Norway. But celebrating new years on top of fjellheisen was a magical experience none the less!

Thank you! The problem with this cave is that it’s extremely tiny and empty that’s why the video ended up this way. There isn’t anything to explore besides the old hay. I had probably 30 minutes of film exploring every detail of the cave, but nothing really was interesting. So I ended up making it a «horror film» instead. I will be looking for other adventures!
