At 27:49 They're talking about the HR-01 class the NdeM had on their 3 foot gauge, they were big 2-6-6-2 simple articulated locomotives. Gives me hope the Baldwin 4-8-2s from Colombia make it in the game

While a full locomotive list won't be released till the game is I am pretty sure the Columbian 4-8-2s will not be in the game. The locomotives and rolling stock in game are limited to what saw service in North America. So 4-8-2s from Columbia are not in scope. Though built in the US no north american 3ft narrow gauge railroads operated 4-8-2s As for big articulateds I think the most likely would be the Utinah railroads 2-6-6-2 tank engines and their later form on the Sumpter Valley Railroad where they lost their side tanks and became tender locomotives. But again we won't know until the game releases or they show it in a dev blog.

@bluepoppy1026 well considering Hawaiian equipment has been confirmed there's no reason Mexican and Colombian equipment wouldn't be in the game, Hawaiian railways stopped running before statehood and were built during their independence so they're not US railroads either. Plus Colombia used American locomotives and rolling stock just like we did.

@@boxcarthehusky420 Hawaiian and Mexican equipment are certainly in scope as Hawaiian counts as American operations and Mexico is in the North American continent. However even though they used American built equipment Colombia is in South America and thus not in the scope of the game. Also when deciding what locomotives to add in game one of their first considerations is how common was the locomotive type in North America on the three foot narrow gauge. If it was very common like certain Baldwin catalog locomotives then it has a good chance of showing up. Something like a Garrett would not be in game because no north american railroad ran narrow gauge Garretts. One off or experimental locomotives are also very low on the list unless they represent a use case that no other locomotive can fill. Locomotives that were proposed but never built are at the very bottom of the list, simply because modeling them is incredibly difficult and since they never existed in real life they don't represent a typical locomotive of north American 3ft narrow gauge.

@bluepoppy1026 yeah sorry I don't really buy i since the difference is so little, plus they don't want to copy railroads online.

@@boxcarthehusky420 well we will see. Back when they had their discord going someone did ask about the Columbian 4-8-2s if I remember correctly and the devs said no as far as I can recall so that's where I am coming from for if they would be in game or not. I don't think they're worried about it looking like they are copying RO. Since both are representing North American 3ft narrow gauge railroading there is going to be an overlap of subject matter. That's just how it is. The team is very set on the scope and to not let scope creep happen.

There is a reason why they chose not to recreate any real railroad line 1 to 1. Its because the main piont of the game is creating your own railroad with its own identity and story. It also keeps the games appeal more broad. There is also a reason for only the four maps for on release and that is simply because that is what they have time for. All of them work full time jobs outside of the studio. They had to make tough decisions on what to include and not include. Its very much quality over quantity. Instead of ten meh bland maps you get four carefully crafted and curated maps. As they said they are dense with scenery and stories not just generic trees and rocks. Trust me there are railroads that I would love to see a map influenced by that don't fit any of the biomes of the confirmed maps. But i understand that they don't have infinite time or the resources of a AAA studio to devote to that.

Thank you for your comment. I understand but you got to understand. Do you want to play a game that only has so little maps. I don't know about you but I prefer to have variety where I get to have trouble. I want trouble. I want things that gives me a challenge. Because that makes me feel happy. I understand it's not meant for everyone. But also wouldn't you want to experience the real world 3-ft narrow gauge maps. There's one I really want to play. It's the Durango and Silverton line that one's very beautiful and I would love to play on it. I'm just saying thank you for the comment

Sorry again. A little side note. Another thing about the Durango and Silverton. If it was put into the game and we get to play on it. I would love to haul silver ore from Silverton to Durango to have it smelted you know how fun that would be running flat cars of silver ore. Oh that'd be amazing!

@Demo-xu6bl even with only four maps there will still be plenty of variety and each map I am sure will have decent challenges. Especially with the various difficulty settings that you will be able to adjust. The main two reasons I can think of for not doing a one to one map of a real railroad are one to keep the appeal more broad and two licensing. Dealing with the licensing needed for using real railroads can take a lot of time and resources.
