We last heard from Scott in 2022 with this message "The partial knee replacement that Dr. Stone did is still "perfect": asymptomatic, strong, full flexibility, and in no way inhibits my continuing my "super active" lifestyle of participating at a national and world-class level in triathlons and duathlons...and all of the other sports I love. " You can see all his full story including his updates here www.stoneclinic.com/story/triathlete-returns-podium-after-partial-knee-replacement

Just had a partial knee replacement on Nov 20, my PT says I’m 2-3 stages ahead of schedule for flex action, but swelling and healing should be the main interest for the next few weeks! It’s only been 4 days after surgery, pain is not a factor, just follow the recovery program goals and you’ll be fine, I’m 74 played pickleball 7 days a week day before the operation, and I’m looking forward to being on the court soon!

Thanks for this, Laurie. This is encouraging as I’ve just pushed the button on simultaneous partial replacement of both knees, here in the UK. I’m an avid cyclist and can ride 150 miles without any knee pain. But walking 1/2 a mile is painful. The consultant surgeon was impressed with my flexibility which is a result of low impact cycling. This has also contributed to strong leg muscles, which I hope will help with recovery. Good luck with getting back to your former fitness.

Glad Laurie's story could provide some inspiration. We wish you the best of luck with your procedures and recovery. Please keep in mind that Laurie's recovery results are specific to a patient who has had their knee replaced by Dr. Stone using the Stryker MAKO Robotic-Assisted surgical robot and undergoing our StoneFit physical therapy program. Different knee replacement implants or manually performed knee replacements may not permit impact sports or intense physical activity. Be sure to discuss your goals for surgery prior to your procedure and be sure to clear any return to sports with your orthopaedist/physical therapist before starting your first run. Thanks for the comment and we hope you get back to cycling and running soon!

l just got it in the medial section but the rest of the knee is normal, so if l needed surgery would it just be a partial replacement? is that alot less painful and better recovery compared to a full replacment, are there any negative to a partial replacement compared to a full replacment
@stoneclinic
@stoneclinic Ай бұрын
Our bias to leave your healthy tissue in your body where it belongs and repair/replace only injured/damaged tissue. A partial knee replacement procedure does not remove the ligaments in your knee, making it feel like a much normal, natural-feeling knee. And there is no risk of in choosing a partial knee replacement instead of a total, as this procedure can always be expanded into a total knee replacement later in life-if needed. You can learn more about the procedure including recovery timelines here www.stoneclinic.com/partial-knee-replacement

Hi there. If head to the page at the end of the video you should find what you are looking for www.stoneclinic.com/bioknee. This will describe the three main procedures that comprise the BioKnee program. Here is a link to the published outcome data from clinical research studies into these procedures www.stoneclinic.com/outcome-studies-and-research Finally, we provide all our patients detailed pricing for the cost of their treatment. This is done after Dr. Stone fully reviews your injury and can prescribe a treatment plan for your specific injury. We cannot publish it online or in video because each patient's injury is unique so costs vary depending on how many procedures are required to fully restore the patient's knee. No patients are committed to any surgery until they've fully reviewed the program and the pricing. More info on our billing here www.stoneclinic.com/financial-considerations

What consequences does this have on the wear of the prosthesis in the medium/long term? Is there a way to understand if and to what extent there is accelerated wear? Did this patient have problems with joint dysmorphism prior to the TKR?
@stoneclinic
@stoneclinic 2 ай бұрын
Wear is a common concern, but with our robotic technology it is not an issue. Here's an excerpt from a blog by the operating surgeon Dr. Kevin Stone www.stoneclinic.com/blog/running-after-knee-replacement "In the old days, patients were told to go home and rest their knee after artificial joint replacement. They could walk, play golf, and possibly play some doubles tennis. The fear was that the implants would either wear out or break down the cement that was fixing them to the bone. Unfortunately, this advice both depressed runners and led to a higher rate of bone osteoporosis and muscle weakening. Joint loosening and failure may have been increased by this “conservative” advice. By advising patients to return gradually to running, we build bone density and muscle strength-thereby decreasing the risk of joint loosening. The plastic inserts now used are so durable that there is a very low likelihood of them wearing out. And if they do, they can be relatively easily replaced."

Every person's recovery is unique. I had both of mine replaced at the same time using the MAKO, and I'm coming up on 1 year this week. I stretch and exercise daily, and I still have heavy swelling. I have great flex/extension, but I cannot live life without compression sleeves to contain the swelling in the knees and lower legs. Still very sore and stiff after sleeping or sitting for 20+ minutes. I know I may be the exception here, but please temper your expectations. This man here is also the exception and not the norm.
