Great lesson! Off topic, but I thought I was familiar with every brand of shred style guitar out there, but I don't recognize that one, and can't read the logo on the headstock. Anyone know what it is?

In respect of rule 3, surely one player would end sooner?
@joemaynard42333 күн бұрын
rule #3 is interesting, i wonder how one would get into that mindset... in my thought process it would be 'well if the other musicians are playing this, i would normally play that in response, so i better play something different" but that in itself is listening to and responding to the other musicians in a way. it's a thought experiment like a zen koan or something, how do you hear what other musicians are playing and not respond *at all* in the affirmative or negative sense

I would paraphrase the three instructions into one..”play like you’re trying to spontaneously combust “…(I loved this installment so much I had to comment twice 😊)

Growing up in India, I was lucky to have seen Zakir Hussain with the original lineup of Shakti with the mighty John McLaughlin, it is a phenomenal show, they almost played for four hours. I remember reading about you and your articles on Guitar Player magazine back in the eighties. It’s a huge loss for Hindustani classical music and the world at large. You are one of the few western musicians who actually understands how big of a talent Zakir was. Thanks for remembering your friend Henry and sharing your thoughts with us. God Bless you. Rest in Peace…Zakir Hussain ! 🙏🇺🇸🇬🇧🇮🇳

I like several kinds of jazz, but I wouldn’t call this jazz. The first part sounds like noise and goes on so long that I thought I had the wrong site. Then it adds mostly uninspired repetitive themes. It doesn’t swing. It’s not creative. The players are locked into dull patterns. It sounds mostly dead to me. I’ve heard plenty of Latin jazz that’s energized and played enthusiastically and is alive. This is not. Don’t know why the Times liked it.

Always loved samba, Brazilian jazz....gives me the same feeling as those musical scores by Italian composers for films in the 1960s which I also love! :)
