While so many people go only to western countries in eastern Europe we don’t even have those problems. There are a lot of tourists here, but they are mostly locals from other cities and they come for less than a day. I live in Sofia and It’s so rare to see people from other countries. But Eastern Europe is as beautiful as western…

I am from Lofoten Islands which was a important fishing and whaling place and now it is no longer the Lofoten it was 20-30 years ago now everything is build for tourist and the roads are not build for tourist busses and it is putting pressure in a bad way for the Islands. Maybe in a different world or timeline where Lofoten has less tourist and more locals and fishing harbours and i will tell you all that tourist Lofoten is not as beautiful as industrialized Lofoten which is far more beautiful

LISTEN TO ME: YOU SOLVE OVERTOURISM BY IMPROVING LOCAL ISSUES FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS, INCLUDING INDIGENOUS RESIDENTS. YOU MUST INCEST ALL THE FUCKING MONEY YOU ARE INVESTING IN TOURISM AND ATTRACTING INVESTORS AND NEW PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE INTO THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES THEMSELVES: EDUCATION, SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS, LOCAL ECONOMY, SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE, HIGHER ED, AFFORDABLE HOUSING, ENVIRONMENTALISM, MORE LOCAL COMMUNITY PARKS, SMALLER MORE DOWNTOWN AREAS AND LOCALIZED ACCESS TO RESOURCES WITHOUT NEED FOR MOTORIZED VEHICLES, CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND LONGTERM PERMANENT COMMUNITY WHERE YOU ARE IS WHAT WILL AUTOMATICALLY SOLVE OVERTOURISM - WHILE PUTTING LAWS AND PROTECTIONS IN PLACE TO PROTECT LOCALS AND PREVENT DESTRUCTION FROM TOURISM. FOLLOW MY ADVICE IF YOU WISH TO PRESERVE YOUR LOCAL TOWN COMMUNITY AND ECOLOGY. If not, you will perish like Easter Island’s civilization. The choice is yours.

It IS in fact about NOT going somewhere. It is about making where you are with who you are with (YOUR local ecosystem and neighborhood, community, town in which you live) A TRUE paradise everyday - improving it and facing the problems and challenges WHERE YOU LIVE PERMANENTLY to improve it. Rather than escaping and heaping your problems onto somewhere and someONE else via RECOLONIZATION and gentrification. It is about making small sustainable LOCAL communities where you are with better parks, heal the environment, improve ecosystems health, improve waterways health, improve reduce pollution, improve safety and reduce crime, improve affordability, education and living standards for families and ppl NOW where you LIVE and taking responsibility for those things NOW. Not further pushing ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS DOWN THE FUCKING ROAD to deal with them when there is a climate apocolypse. GROW UP STAY HOME AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN DAMN FUCKING TOWN. STOP ABUSING MINE!!!!

Firenze, Italia. This jewel of a city in which I lived since I was born is nothing but a tourist trap. Life for us fiorentini and other Italians has become unbereable. If you want to sip a tea standing you are going to pay 3 Euro for some hot water (max 2 cups when you are lucky) and a regular supermarket tea bag. A shared room with two beds is 500 Euro a month per bed when an average salary is less than 1000 euro per month. Filthy rich house owners are evicting and throwing on the street old and handicapped people who paid rent for 25 years to AirB&B apartments. Food and services are way more inferior for what you pay, we pay triple for everything. Overtourism and greedy politicians destroyed this city selling it to dumb groups who don't even know where Firenze is on the world map. Stay home, please.

Well, all those 'Promised Lands' are now getting crowded out by people moving to those places, much to the detriment of the locals, their environment and their local economies. The backlash was bound to happen sooner or later.

ok i will chime in a little. Trawangan was a bad place back in 1998. the local kids were ripping off the tourists in the bars and getting knivey about it at times. double charging for drinks. there seemed to be no police presence to stop them. the coral was bleached from temp changes. really all it had was sand and well, so does every tropical island. i dont know why people continued to go. travel agents? ignorance as to what a nice island should be? travel agents that sell Phuket to families that dont know any better and find themselves in sex hot spots like Patong beach. The Beach? there seemed to be zero limit as to how many boats could go to phi phil leh and drip anchor at once. greed. eventually it had to be shut down. was anything learned? it wasn't the films makers fault. they left it in better shape than they found it. so we have irresponsible and corrupt players. nothing going to change there. i was surprised that Bali was not front and centre as it is the worst example from my experience. people are finally coming back now and saying how bad it is to their friends. it is bad-done go. its over. a british woman on this says she is venetian? sigh. no she is british and she wants to be a venetian. just like i am canadian and i live in northern thailand. I finally did a touristy trip to europe this year and it will never happen again, people paying extra to 'skip the line' only to find that lines a big as the normal one. it was spring-not high season and it was brutal. Italy and Spain were my targets and I can say that being a tourist is not worth it. i have spent much of my life in SE Asia and it was ok but now India, China and Russia have shown up. it's a massive footprint now, but who is anyone to say they shouldn't experience it. at the end of the day can't govt's limit tourist visas? not likely after covid. thailand is aggressively selling tourism to Chinese and Russians. $$$. and who can not mention Air BnB - the worst thing to happen to accoms around the world. not in the opinion of the owners though right? i have a property on a ski hill in Canada and there are very few places left in the valley and on the hill for staff and locals. I rent to staff because i dont want 50 groups of people who dont care coming through my condo every year. Air Bnb- what a disaster. with this digital virtual world unfolding you can almost see the world without leaving your home. i did a ly by of the Amalfi coast and it was lovely on my computer screen. lol. not the same of course but i'm not going. good luck everyone. my best guess is govt regulation. limits. only so many people can be in one place at a time. Air Bnb has to change as well. it's doing massive damage. have a nice trip and don't forget, you're a guest.

It is very sad, unfortunately what I observe is that because of instagram a lot of places has started to become very popular and tourism is just a new way to show off someone's wealth. Because of that a lot of people, also young people, just want to go somewhere in order to take a photo and eat fancy food and post it on Instagram, they do not care about the culture or the history. The most important thing is to show it on Instagram that they have been somewhere.

You are spot on . Something to remember if the residents and property owners weren’t greedy and sold out for values FAR beyond what they were worth years ago they would not be in this situation . People sold out against sound advice, and courted the tourists market against advice from people who knew what the effects from personal experience . Years ago red light districts, entertainment areas, and hotels, etc 15:00 were consolidated were let to spread and displace real living spaces . Greed has allowed, welcomed , encouraged and silenced the cries of people being displaced . Another point of interest so many of these destinations are exploiting the work force, paying poor wages, long hours and expecting customers to pay employees wages through tipping . Coffee and a scone 11 dollars and the expectation of the customer paying 20 or 25 percent tip - and they hand you an empty coffee cup for you to make - I call it rape . Remember you can not buy what is not for sale at any price .

skirting around the elephant in the room. There is overcrowding everywhere because the world population is growing exponentially and fast. During antiquity, there were only a few million humans living on the globe. Now it's billions. Unless the population shrinks massively, the overcrowding is just going to get worse.

SInce I was 22, I have traveled abroad, and to too many places, many memories, many good ones and some bad ones. I have always been a responsible tourist, better on each trip. I am now 66 and still travel... sometimes to the same place ( I have been to the grand canyon 14 times; Venice 6 times, London 8 times, etc.,) and sometimes to places I will not return too, but love nonetheless. I read about the history, the people, the culture and politics of every place I have plan to visit; I also do my best to educate myself about the "dos and donts" when visiting a place. Given all of the above, I truly understand why locals are taking action against "mass tourism" because I have seen it firsthand; how it changes a place.... Venice of 1982 is not the same Venice I visited in 2018, not because of the local people........... its the Tourists! This video explains pretty much why and I agree with the same. But, I have to say this.... traveling the world or even your own state or country changes most of us... we become enriched because of the experiences, we become wiser and enlightened and most of all - at least for me - we become grateful. Traveling has been my blessing.... I do not regret one step I've taken while on the road.

Don’t let your officials be bought off. PROTEST! PROTEST EVERY DAY. Make your city or town as unpleasant for them to visit as they make it for you to live in. ‼️‼️‼️

It’s so sad. I traveled the world my entire youth through National Geographic magazines. Pictures of beautiful places and countries around the world. It tears me up inside knowing it is no longer like what I had pictured. Cruise ships have gotten to be sickenly huge. The entitled people on board have no respect for the peoples “homes” they are visiting. I haven’t traveled out of the US. I’m going to try and envision the world as it was in my mind. Hope the travel trend calms down.
