@kevinproctor874310 күн бұрын
Well done. Pretty good technique for a non professional mechanic. I found myself holding my breath as you were tightening the cyl or the barrel, not a "jug "down. Jug is clearly a local term but a bit strange to Aussies. Goodonyou Chris. Keep up the good work
@kevinproctor874310 күн бұрын
Hi Chris, new to your channel, recommended by DaleS. Great stuff, keep it up. Unlike plain metal bearings or cam running directly in the head, roller bearings do not require a running clearance for any oil film. So they are not loose in the head Typically roller ball bearings are zero clearance. By this I mean the bearing and bore are size for size or just a slight preload with the bore being smaller. Therefore hard to measure this with Plastigauge. If your clearance checks were a little inconclusive then I would have tried checking camshaft rotational torque of the camshaft in the old head and the new head. Once again hard to measure accurately but rotation by hand and feel would be close enough to provide comfort in the swapped parts

Doesn’t the spring on the seal go towards the oil? If you install the springs, spacer and top cap back on the slider you won’t need to put the stick on the inside, then install the bottom bolt.
@CK-CyclesАй бұрын
I believe this bike has a dual spring seal, but I could be wrong. Also, I used the old seals to seat the new seals and I may have pounded on the old seals facing up (so it looked like I installed the true seals up side down). As for the piston holder, a full assembly of the fork may hold the piston secure for bottom bolt installation. I have not tried that before so I used my super fancy piston holder.

Good job brother. I’m fixing to do this on my 1970 CB175 redid the hole bike every nut and bolt. Seals were good. Rode it about 4 hundred miles. Now I get a drip every once in a while. So I have seals ordered.
@CK-CyclesАй бұрын
Yep, that is the way it goes. Gonna do a video on your seal replacement?
@flipfixАй бұрын
I've made seal drivers from PVC pipe in the past, you have to do a little cutting and grinding to get a good fit, works well.
@CK-CyclesАй бұрын
Thanks for the pointer! I should have taken more time and built a driver like you. PVC would probably drive the seals much better than using the old seals and been safer from possible unintentional damage from the steel punch.

Sounds exactly like mine on startup. (All original 1973 CL125S. Except for some socket head Allen screws.) I usually go about half choke, kick a few times, then quarter-choke until it idles. I may have to hit the throttle a little to get it over the hump and let it idle. A full choke is way too rich to start it. But all these little Hondas had their own personalities. They all act different... But all the same. Lol. I remember having to make a points-cover gasket out of a sheet of gasket material. I'm hoping that's all yours needs, and not an internal oil-seal. (Mine just had a slight drip. I now have an oem seal packed away in my maintenance box for next time.) I'm so glad this sweet little Honda is back together. Keep up the good work!

I am in the process of restoring a 1978 XT500 and have watched most of your videos on your rebuild. They are all very well done and have been a big help with my bike. I do have a question for you. I don’t know if I missed it or not but I didn’t see any mention of the torque that you used on the head bolts. I’m also not having any luck finding it on line. Thanks for the great videos and any information you can provide on the torque.

When you’re plugging the tors plugs back into the wires after you tied them, there’s another white plug in the view to the left, if you unplug that it’ll give you spark but will your bike still run?

Hi there, glad I came across your videos, they are great. Can I ask a question, I have the exact same xt a 77. Do you know if the fly wheel should have pick ups on it or not, mine ticks over fine but use won’t take any throttle. Running it with electronic so points ae redundant. Cheers
@CK-Cycles2 ай бұрын
@@PaulConnor-l1o good question. After this video I switched over to electric and completed a points delete. My electric works with the stock flywheel which I believe is just magnets and no pickups on the flywheel. Are your points still hooked up to the coil in addition to the electronic ignition unit? Perhaps you’re getting pre-ignition or loosing some ignition strength from one of the duplicate systems. If you figure it out, please let me know.

Thanks for gettimg back to me, old system is disconected and just new coils and cdi new plug too i can take the carb apart blind folded now having tried needle position in every setting and stillnthe same think it will be an engine out and top end check for timing....... keep the videos coming cheers
@CK-Cycles2 ай бұрын
@@PaulConnor-l1o ok, thanks. I had a similar issue with engine bog upon throttle opening from idle and was taking the carb on and off trying to figure it out. I finally noticed I did not reinstall the main nozzle after carb rebuild and fuel was just getting dumped past the needle. I put the main nozzle back in and it took care of the issue. I think I talked about it in video #28 of the XT series. Good luck and keep us posted if you figure it out.
