Saab sold the 90 also in Germany, 1.200 units in total in over 3 years. 5 Speed Geearbox and the sporty front spoiler was standard. Only option the customer had was the color and the sunroof.

Yep you heve lots to do with a project. Spoler alert. What will hide in the engine. Probably you have worn-out engine bearings. If not damiged crankshaft. So take out engine sump check big end bearings uper side and the main bearings especially nubered 2,3,4.
@BoostyMoose

The bearings was replaced no too long before the car got parked. So if they need to be replaced, that will have to be at a later stage.

Thanks for this! This is the first time I have seen or heard of anyone making this repair. I have the same problem in my 1989 900s sedan. I think it is the worst part of the car. Saab didn't think this through too well. The part is just a piece of cardboard. Mine has sagged over time and the edges have broken off. I have repeatedly taped it and wired it up only to have it fall. The speakers attached to it are too heavy for such weak material. After my last repair it all fell down in a day! So, now I have put a large plastic container under it just to hold it up. It looks like yours is in better condition overall.
@BoostyMoose
@BoostyMoose Жыл бұрын
Yes, It was in pretty good condition to begin with, but I was still torn ower if I should reuse it or make one out of plywood or something, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out

@@BoostyMoose In the newer model years they used a type of molded plastic which was similar and stronger. I wonder why they didn't figure that out earlier? That makes me think that I could get one from a newer Saab at a junk yard and cut the piece to fit the classic 900 sedan.

My parking brake, the pressure plate, totally rusted. I had it removed since it was partially dragging on the rotor causing a moaning sound. It was barely used since it is an automatic. The car is typically garaged. So, this part should not have failed so badly.
@BoostyMoose
@BoostyMoose Жыл бұрын
You need to use it once in a while, but since my car has lost the return springs it might be a bit more risky

How did this get so rusted? The newer/NG Saabs seem to rust less than the classic models.
@BoostyMoose
@BoostyMoose Жыл бұрын
In my experiance, this generation (pre facelift) is the one with the minimal problems with rust. But this car has been daily driven in the salty roads of sweden every winter, and not really taken care of. My facelifted 9-5 has seen alot bigger rust problems than this car but that has been taken care of directly so it doesnt spred anymore

One of the things that inspired me to finally start this project was that I found out that it is legal in sweden to just cut out the trunk floor and replace it with a flat sheet of metal as long as you get rid of the tow hook and register the car without it. That would make it a hole lot easier if I am unable to just patch up the holes. Small sacrifice to get rid of the towhook but it might be worth it just to get the car back on the street

Regarding the engine oil pressure, many early models could develop the infamous “sludge” issue. Oil pickup screen may be substantially clogged, causing the low oil pressure and warning light flickering, but the screen can be cleaned if you drop the oil pan. Besides clean it he pickup screen there was a PCV update fix too, but a first step I’d suggest is to remove the cam cover and see if there is any evidence of oil sludge on the valve train. Good luck, and will be watching!
@BoostyMoose
@BoostyMoose Жыл бұрын
That is the plan, I am hoping that the issue is something like that. It would be really nice if I don't have to replace the engine.
