Nawfal al-Ashja’i reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, *“Recite the chapter, ‘Say: O disbelievers…’ (109:1) then sleep after finishing it, for it is a declaration of innocence from idolatry/shirk.”* Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 790 Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Arna’ut Al Ihsan, Hadith: 789, Mustadrak Hakim, vol.2 pg.538 & also see: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol.10 pg. 121 & Al-Futuhatur Rabbaniyyah, vol.3 pg.156. Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith:5016/5055, Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3403 There are many types of shirk 1.Minor: a.Showing off for validation and praise, al-Musnad (27742) b.looking down on others as inferior people(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 91), c. Superstition/bad omen (Abu Dawud (3910) d. Associating good moments to someone other than ALLAH.(al-Bukhari (1038) and Muslim (74)) “We have been given rain by such and such a star/ I achieve it on my own and I can do whatever i want e. Amulate, (Abu Dawud, 3883) f. swearing by other than Allah 2. Major shirk: a. Taking equal to Allah. “And of mankind are some who take (for worship) others besides Allah as rivals(to Allah). They love them as they love Allah” [al-Baqarah 2:165] b. Calling upon other than ALLAH who is absent. Calling upon a prophet,a wali (“saint”), an angel or a jinn, or some other created being C. mocking ALLAH, sacrificing/prostrating/praying/replacing the ruling of ALLAH is major shirk. *Dua:* اللّهُـمَّ إِنّـي أَعـوذُبِكَ أَنْ أُشْـرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنا أَعْـلَمْ، وَأَسْتَـغْفِرُكَ لِما لا أَعْـلَم O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I associate anything with You knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I know not.
