Funnily enough, this is the second video in the past 24 hours that told me I'm wasting time by watching it.

My boyfriend and I are deepening our relationship so he showed me his favourite video EVER : this one. And I was wondering - I admire your dedication and your will to do a thorough enquiry - if you would think about doing a video on PRINTERS. Indeed, printers are NIGHTMARES. They never work when you need them to, and now it's difficult to find one which is not """smart"" as they say, which means actually "connected-but-as-a-matter-of-fact-frequently-unable-to-connect". Would you consider the idea of a video on reliable and simple-to-use printers ? I wish you a nice holiday.

Best emacs sales pitch I have heard yet, but Im sticking with VIM! 😂 Seriously though, I was starting to think I needed some fancy note taking app to take notes but realized I really don't take notes. Selling my soul for a commercial note taking app just for the sake of taking notes I don't already take seems kinda lame. Great Video!

I was recommended QOwnNotes by ChatGPT and it's awesome. It also turned me onto QMPlay2 which is Foobar2000 if Foobar was good.

Neovim can be the fastest, the most effiecient and productive text editor if you know what you are doing. You have to install plugins, setup key binds, macros, configuree, configure and configure for the rest of your life. For a chill guy like me, i do not give a fuck. I just open google keeps, copy/paste some stuff and we are done. It automatically syncs to all of my devices. And i dont copy paste confidential stuff, so i dont give a fuck ito whhatever google does with my data.

HOLY COW! Again? 12:47 You just showed the "Stop procrastinating guy" I was JUST looking up in my Notion to try and share the link with you when you were raving about the apple notes thing. The irony? I couldn't find the link because I can't remember where I stored it in my Notion! Ha ha. Anyway - I would probably go with your choice but for the fact that I'm useless at "Do it yourself" hosting and security stuff. Cheers for a great rant back to sanity man! You earned that like.

12:00 You just did it again! "What happened to those apple notes people?" I JUST watched this girl yesterday explain that Notion was REALLY BAD for her ADHD because she kept making things too complicated and it messed up her brain - so she just went back to Apple Notes and started RAVING about it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqCxhWCvgJWBd68

Oh my gosh - you just had a go at the Markdown split view! Who are you, and why have you stolen half my brain?
@eclipsenow543129 күн бұрын
Dude - I'm with you on keeping the simple - I just don't know how yet (see 1 below). But I'm starting to detect a backlash on youtube against the temptation to constantly tinker ON your notes APP - like improving Notion with this next crazy complicated idea someone had - rather than IN your notes. "Oh - look how much more efficient I'll be when I've set up this new thing someone told me I had to have on youtube - and ... I barely understand WHY I need it ... and now I have it I think I programmed it wrong... and now it doesn't work!" There goes 2 days! But oh the Dopamine! Sometimes Notion users (myself included!) be like the troll in the basement: "Hey Grandma! Look at this house I built in minecraft!" Yeah - like THAT KID! So when you say stick with something and just USE it - yes - I'm with you. But Notion keeps appealing to that Minecraft part of my brain... I need out! Footnote 1: Forgive me - but I'm a mere PC user. I played with Linux Mint a few years back but being PC at work and Linux at home messed up my muscle memory for where stuff was. Maybe when I retire I'll go Mint? So for me the challenge is setting up all this self-hosting stuff - because I'm a technical dumbar$e with a humanities background - not techie. That's why I've gone a bit Notion lately. BUT.... still looking for the security and the automatic AFK locking.
@eclipsenow543129 күн бұрын
I'm with you on being a bit over Markdown and just hitting CTRL+1 or 2 or 3 for headings - but that might betray the NOTION I'm currently addicted to tweaking all the time. HELP ME!
@eclipsenow543129 күн бұрын
But doesn't storage in plain text mean IF you happen to be lending your computer to someone, they might stumble across your ... "Second brain" and all that venting I had to do after that "thing" happened with a certain family member? Yeah, that journal! SHARES: My ideal Notes app would be something like Evernote that shares across ALL Operation Systems and phones, and shares with friends or clients. LOCKS most of my “Second Brain” away from prying eyes because it is all behind my own password/s - and locks if I go AFK. It only gives my friend access to the pages I shared with them. BUT they will also need to set a password because theirs will also automatically lock when they go AFK.

used to use QOwnNotes, loved it. Very refreshing after wading through piles of 30 year old open source note apps and bloated shit. Now I use Obsidian - way less sigma I know. I just plan to jump to the next stupid startup's free software after I realize I am getting fucked by the current one.

This video went from 0 to derrange in no time, just because of emacs. Don't get me wrong, I AM the type of guy you are describing in your video, trying to make stupid shit to get my things together while using a pc and trying to learn vim. This rant was beautiful and now I am willing to use doom emacs for note taking, specially due to vim mode. Thanks for the video!

check out meow in emacs. it's a step up from even helix. simpler, more minimal, less modal barriers. also emacs compiles now. ;)

helix is nice. just wait 'til they add scheme scripting, and for people to dev plugins with it. it's on the right path.

well I am Amr and you scared me for a second. Good way of making videos and here is a subscribe. I am using obsidian instead of notepad++ and not for note taking but to put my rubbish in one place. I need a replacement for word to do online course studying. That is all and Word doesnt support niether latex nor code so I have to take images for codes and word math instead of latex. not wow but it is better than everything else and specially notion that doesnt have zooom.

I used to be a happy notion user until one time their servers died in the middle of an online lesson and I was left without anything. That was when I realised anything critical for performing important tasks could not rely on cloud services the failure of which is completely out of my control. Now, I use obsidian, and having been introduced to a much more powerful and interoperable ecosystem, I have no regrets.

Honestly, I just keep going back to Obsidian. It just has what I need, and does it well. I get that the FOSS people think that's heresy, but honestly, I have no issues with closed source. I mean, I am working on my own sort of fork of Obsidian because Obsidian was built with the Atom IDE. Even though it's discontinued, go download the Atom IDE, which you can fork.
