Thanks so much for subtitling this. Even just a two minute video like this can give so much insight into his genius.

I didn't follow Alexi Laiho's career while he was alive, but I don't know how to explain it, in all the videos I saw he seemed like a nice guy, escaping the silly stereotype that they create for some musical styles. Randy Blythe(Lamb of God) also has that same aura.

When i watch videos like this with Alexi. I often hold back tears. TRuly A one of a kind Metal guitarist. he had his own sound. difficult to do in such a saturated world in modern metal guitar players. Such a sweet guy at heart and and a kind soul. Amazing Talent. TRuley missed and not forgotten.

This was the first time I myself ever televoted in any Eurovision context (maybe it was the first time it was even possible in Finland), and when Nightwish didnd't win, despite overwhelming televote win, I was so mad I didn't watch Eurovision for years (until 2004, that is). :)

@RandySavagxe either way a wolf at top speed is only in the 30-40mph range. 1 of these type of lynxes can top out at 50, so it's a huge difference if both are at top speed. A wolf isn't touching 40mph whereas a slow lynx is 40mph.

Aleksi, what a funny, joyful soul. I remember meeting him more than 10 years ago, he can easily talk for hours and hours about playing guitar and other things. He was funny, knowledgeable, easy-going and whatever happened with him it makes me very sad, everyone is battling personal demons, but I also know that the music industry can be a cunt. Respect and Rest In Peace, he was so much more that what he was showing to people.

Suomessa on liikaa hävitetty vanhoja, hienoja rakennuksia kaupungeistamme. Olemme porukalla käyneet pari kertaa Puolassa. Varsovahan pommitettiin melkein maan tasalla viime maailmansodassa. Meille näytettiin filmejä entisestä Varsovasta ja pommitetusta Varsovasta. Puolassa oli löytynyt piirustuksia, vanhoista arvokkaista rakennuksia. He puhdistivat vanhojen rakennus-ten tiilet raunioista ja rakensivat rakennukset samanlaisiksi uudestaa.

Seems like he was happy on the outside, but something happened in 2016. He said to Janne "I'm gonna drink myself to death". Wonder what happened..
@LesPau0425 Жыл бұрын
Did he really tell him that? That would explain everything
@DaniTheDead Жыл бұрын
@@LesPau0425 Yeah, it was Blabbermouth interview. Here's a quote what Janne said: "Alexi's downfall started in 2016," Janne said. "I don't know what caused him to do that. He told me but didn't tell anyone else in the band - he made sure no one else was in the room - and told me, 'Dude, from now on, I'm going to drink until I die.' I said, 'Fuck, man. You can't say that to me.' He said it another time in 2018.
@puppetmaster8551 Жыл бұрын
@@DaniTheDead that may have been the beginning of the end but he had a drinking problem for many many years and already had done a lot of damage to his body by 2016, maybe he could’ve still turned his life around if he quit drinking in 2016 but it seemed he just said fuck it and continued drinking as much if not more than before and he was already a serious alcoholic. He lived the rockstar life for a long time and sadly it eventually caught up to him like it does to so many others. Always sad to see insanely talented musicians drink/drugs themselves to death, like alexi or Layne Staley or so many others, shit sucks. Anyway RIP Alexi, a true all time great metal guitarist.

Finnish drinking culture differs a lot from U.S for example. Men like Alexi might start drinking heavily 12-13 years old and never stop - starting from weekends and turning into an alcoholic. Then many of them drink themself to death either as young people or old when their body quits. "I will drink myself to death" is something a Finnish person probably heard before. Worlds happiest country my ass, they are fooling you in the media

i don't know.. the dude behind the piano is a pretty cool musician. Check out Iiro Rantala: Pekka Pohjola - beautiful. It's a song he wrote for his musician friend who passed away (who was also a really famous finnish prog musician). He was also in Trio Töykeät, which I haven't listened to that much but they're pretty well known over here too. I dug the stuff he did with the beatboxer Felix Zenger - Greetings from Assisi being a good example. So, stylistically different, sure, but that seems to have been the beauty of this show that they did invite all kinds of musicians, and they listened to each other.
