I found a Bach Chorale Gesänge Buch and bought it right away. Early on I watched Gareth discuss these chorales and the book contains 389 songs. It doesn't use the same numbering system, but the titles are consistent, but there are many of the same titles in different keys. My piano teacher is impressed with my level of music theory knowledge, and it is because I have watched THE best music teacher on the internets. Many thanks to Alex and Gareth for their labor of love. I'm sure I speak for hundreds of thousands of people wanting to improve their musical knowledge in saying, merci beaucoup.

This is below my pay grade, but I never want to miss an opportunity to learn from Music Matters. And I picked up a nugget of information about the harmonic minor. BTW I am at this level of music theory geekness because of watching hundreds of Music Matters videos, even though I had no knowledge to start with. But Gareth is so calm and thorough that I was like a sponge. My piano teacher is very appreciative since we can discuss topics he doesn't have with his other pupils. There is another music channel with millions of subscribers who has a music theory video for beginners online. I didn't watch it since I don't yet have a doctorate in musicology. He cannot explain things simply. That is the beauty of Music Matters. Merci.

Kind of a "dumb" question but related to what you said about the d-flat major. Can't I do a sequence of secondary chords in a different key and go back to my home key on a common chord between my new key and original key? I mean isn't secondary dominant like a momentary modulation?

this guy is an amazing educator. thanks for teaching us this awesome class. Also, if anyone thinks AI will ever be able to write good music, or let's say good counterpoint, this video makes the case that Bach' s music is all about beauty, which I think AI has no idea how to "generate".

Syncopation is often explained by offbeats. However, the offbeats have been there before like in the example of Bach. I think it is more often omitting beats. By omitting beats the focus shifts to the offbeat. Moving beats to an off beat position is a variant of omitting beats, stressing the unusual position. Then again it is right that it is about offbeats. Even without omitting beats I get a syncopated effect by putting the climax of a motive on the offbeat.
