You guys are pros. If you don’t mind, what supplements/nutrion are you taking? I ate cheeseburgers and tacos the entire way. Also finished in 90 hours.

Nice, and congratulations on the finish. I drink a lot of Boost as well as a homemade carbohydrate drink mix. If you want the recipe send me a message on Facebook and I will share it with you.

I heard that was a really close finish between y'all and Joe/Eric. Nice race. What does the word "gnarly" mean to you?
@joshua-hulin
@joshua-hulin 5 ай бұрын
Well it was a close race up until they just decided to drop us. Which is exactly what they did after the dam. Then a few weeks later they did the same thing to us at TRM...and again at the Safari. So frustrating! You will have to ask Susannah what she meant. That's not a word I typically use. Especially in regards to someone's stroke, but I am sure it was a complement.

@@joshua-hulin He and Eric did some great racing this year. I was happy he found a partner that could make it to the end. On a different note, I need to thank you two for my great start. I followed you through the Spring Lake portage. I got there too late to try portaging left over the island. Your route over the wall was amazing. Thanks.

@@CurtSlaten Yeah I saw you in the background of our video. But, Shhhhh! Don't tell anyone about that. We have taken that same line three years in a row. It is perfect for solo or tandem. That wall keeps you free from the "Funnel of Chaos." This year there was a spectator in the way, but normally I just walkout down the wall without even getting in the water.

I raced the" World's Toughest Canoe Race" back in the 1980's and it lived up to its reputation. We would train 11 months out of the year and have to take a month off after the race just to recoup.

Is there a prize for making first place in your class or is this all for charity's sake? Either way, I kind of want to do this 😁
@joshua-hulin
@joshua-hulin Жыл бұрын
There is no prize purse for any of the positions in the race. Just a badge for everyone who finishes. There is a traveling trophy for each class. The winning team from each year gets their names engraved on the class trophy.

How many people does it take to field a successful race and by successful I mean a finishing team?
@joshua-hulin
@joshua-hulin Жыл бұрын
Each team is required to have at least one designated Team Captain (aka land based support crew), with the option to have a second. Many teams have additional members of their land crew as help for the Team Captains, but only the Team Captains are allowed give food & water ti the racers.

Haha, we were paddling this weekend and were talking about how much we saw y'all. It was great! I definitely remember being in the log jams taking solace in the fact that at least we didn't have to portage a 40ft long boat like y'all. Good times!

This video is a testament to the love this man’s family has for him. It was ABSOLUTELY beautiful and touching to see. The journey is fraught with danger. But this man does this for his legacy. His family will always know his feats! This is just one of them I’m sure. But thank you FAMILY!!!

can this be done with a single sit on top kayak, like a tarpon 160? not for time, just to complete and experience?
@joshua-hulin
@joshua-hulin 2 жыл бұрын
It is certainly possible. It has been finished in all different types of vessels. The race is 260 miles and you have to finish 100hr. So at a minimum you would need to be able to maintain 2.6 mph round the clock. Roind the clock will not be possible for four days straight, so you will want to be comfortable sustaining 3.5-4 mph to give your self a good shot at a finish. It's recommended for first timers to find a partner and get a 17ft aluminum canoe, that will give you the best shot at finishing.

What brand of canoe is this? I know it’s c-1 but who made it lol
@joshua-hulin

This C1 was built specifically to meet the demands of the Safari by a local boat builder, John Bugge. The hull roughly matching Wenonah J-200, I think, but built tougher and fully decked.
