Question I have my antennas efhw 7510 2k plus 49:1 at around 16ft and 130 ft long wire at around 50 ft and 100 ft of lmr400 coax is grounded at the entrance to the house 8ft rod with lighting protection…so do I need to ground it since it’s 16 ft high at the 49:1 ? Do I need to install a choke? If so where ? To improve?

Thanks for the video, especially for a.) the information regarding testing with a resistor afterwards, b,) for the advice regarding removing/adding turns depending on where the SWR is too high and 🙂 c.) for explaning that one does not need to worry about accidently removing/damaging the insulation. I am about to build one of these transformers, so what you showed is rahter helpful for me as I am new to ham radio. (By the way - you are of course lucky because of your high legal limits in the US, but at least we Germans with our comparatively low legal limit have a bit of an easier job builting these transformers as we can use thinner wire .😉)

TMC also made the most amazing and completely unaffordable transmitter. Cannot find any video or equivalent for one of these. Remember the ads in old ham radio and QST magazines. The GPR 90 was a legendary receiver for sure - Rich, W2FKN

They had the good looks however TMC was 10 years behind Collins in technology. Collins had the stability of the PTO and selectivity of the mechanical filters. The TMC was using technology from 1925.

The void in the box creates a resonant cavity - the width and height determine the frequency at which the audio resonates and therefore sounds louder - nice solution !!

Does anyone but me see the Meter is in SWR mode and peaking over 3:1??? Must have really rugged finals. Kind of confused, 2 meters shown, analog is showing over 3:1 and the bar-graph is barely moving????? ALC being indicated by the top bar-graph meter.
@n4lqАй бұрын
It's just you I suppose. The SWR shows 1:1. Above that is the ALC. I think that's what you're seeing.

If a T240-43 (good for 100 w) How Many Watts?? for (2 Stacked) .. How Many Watts?? for (3 stacked) How is this Calculated?? (How many Toroid Cores Can be Stacked??)
@n4lqАй бұрын
The highest power capability is to stack three 240-52 mix cores. There is no exact method of calculating this. I have been able to easily run 1500 watts SSB and 1kw cw on 40 through 10 meters. 80 meters is the most stressful and the cores will get hot with over 500 watts. Obviously time is a factor too. I even installed a fan on one for higher power. Don't pay any attention to manufacturer claims. Just build it to the max and do what you can.

If the Drake R-4B tuned Longwave and Meidium wave this radio would be an AM broadcast Dx'er dream radio. This radio has everything on it. The downside of owning a boat anchor radio is finding parts and the techinical skill of maintenance of the radio.
