Good explanation but l'Hôpital's rule makes it very easy So after learning l'Hôpital it becomes nearly useless to do algebraic manipulation

You're limiting yourself (no pun intended) when you start seeing L'Hospital everywhere. It's good to have more direct solutions in mind before resorting to L'Hospital

Use L'hospital's rule last. Its better to see how the function progresses, to see all available options. Im not denying its power. For example lim x->0 sinx/x. There are so many ways to evaluate functions like this. Squeeze theorem exists. The taylor series can also be used. For the taylor series: x/x+x^3/3!x... =1+0=1 For L'hospital's rule: d/dx(sinx)/d/dx(x)=cosx=cos0=1
