There's no survival in friendship. Marriage is for (amongst other things) bringing up children. Your work? Well you need to work (most of us) to survive. But there isn't any OBVIOUS value to friendship. I mean, nothing that isn't discerned by research.

"Everyone's going wrong, so I should...what?" The Socratic method makes sense. Map out the logic, facilitate discussion and assemble the pieces of the logic...in other words, take people on a journey to an end you see/desire, but be ready to patiently and excitedly lead people there.

Thank you for this wonderful video For each key point, I have put a heading making it useful for people to refer to. These are my favourite headings: Friends. Beautiful mess effect. Secret = boost the positive = top point. Love Maps. Video released 12th May 2022. Watched 24th April 2023. 11 months later. Key points Funny 00:20 I am working on a book. Get lost Loneliness 3:06 It is a narrative thing. It’s the story u tell yourself about your relations, not the truth about them. [But it is your truth] Social media 7:15 It goes into your social budget. Ease of access 08:33 we moved away from meeting people due to the ease of staying at home. Friends 10:30 Aristotle = a friend is another self. [Same point mentioned in How to be perfect by Mike Schur. A person is a person through other people] 12:25 friends make us happier than any other relation. 13:13 friendship’s fragility proves its purity. No institution for it. Don’t show up to work? You get fired by your boss. Don’t pay attention to your partner? You get divorced. There is no institution for friends hence they get less respect. It is a choice. It is not in a contract because there is not one. Beautiful mess effect 17:10 When others tell us of their weaknesses, we are accepting. Hence we can be less judgemental. Heart Attack 18:10 not opening up increases your chance of a heart attack but also it being lethal. 18:18 oh my gosh. Funny 20:00 historical era = help-me-not-die marriage 22:35 sunk cost fallacy 23:03 Eric waves his hand to the left. Looks like he just brushed off Stever Gottman’s 4 horsemen 23:23 same 4 mistakes Secret = boost the positive = top point 25:00 Don’t just fix the negatives. Must boost the positives. This is more important than just fixing negatives. Love Maps 28:35 Ask your partner the big Q’s. What does love mean to you? [ Big Q for me is what is fulfilment?] 29:09 now I know why they are upset because doing household chores is an act of love. A bad thing to happen is negative sentiment override. You just assume your partner is bad. 30:22 Stever sees cleaning the kitchen is an act of love. Thank you for this wonderful video.

I think the interviewer didn't quite understand the issue of loneliness. It's not about narrative or storytelling but the depth, meaning and significance of the relationships. It's not about numbers but depth and meaning.

By addressing the underlying concern, you were up front and able to address the concern. Well done. How can one plan to do this ahead of time? I would give the wrong answer because it takes me time to come up with the right answer.
@SteverRobbins2 жыл бұрын
Before going into a negotiation, I would list out on a piece of paper all the objections I expect the other side to have. Then for each objection, ask, "what are all the underlying concerns that could lead to this objection?" You'll be surprised that you can usually figure out more than you think you know. Price objections, for example, may come down to: they don't understand the value of what I'm bringing to the situation, or they can't afford the price out of the current budget (but there may be other budgets they can pay from), etc.

I always wondered about the “work hard” advice. I worked hard. It didn’t exactly get me where I wanted to go. Thank you gor declaring this a pernicious myth.
@SteverRobbins2 жыл бұрын
This one drives me absolutely crazy, because people accept it so unquestioningly. First of all, most people work hard, but most people aren't rich. So clearly there's not a direct relationship. Then you have the Fortune 500 CEOs who also sit on four Boards of Directors, attend conferences, give media interviews ... and if they have the time to do all those things, are they really working that hard at their CEO job?

Darrell is a gem of a human being. One of the things I find especially admirable is that he's managed to succeed at making Logitech successful -both- as a business -and- in terms of its environmental and social impact. He's the only CEO I know of who is proving that it's possible to bring our businesses substantially in line with social good.

The CEO's boss is the shareholders, when you buy shares of a company, the CEO of that company works for you.
@SteverRobbins3 жыл бұрын
This is true legally. In practice, however, the shareholders only exercise oversight through valuation and/or share price. Unlike everyone else in a company, a CEO has no manager. No one holds them accountable for their daily behavior.
@sonny126813 жыл бұрын
@@SteverRobbins When the CEO has no manager and no one holds them accountable for their daily behavior, that is when the company is privet and is not being traded in any market. Once the company becomes public, the CEO can get voted out by the board of shareholders if that CEO does a lot of bad stuff.
