This film is one of my favorites from Shaw Brothers, probably Liu C.L. is my fav director because he pays so attention to details. I would like to know your opinion about some film of King Hu, he has a deep sense of cinematography, like in Come Drink with Me, watch Pei Pei Cheng, she is unbelievable. And also love Crippled Avengers, the best of Chang Cheh and the Venoms.

@@demianmega most of the films of king hu i watched were post his era with chang pei pei. They looked nice, but the pacing and overcut fight scenes drove me mad. Seemed like that was something he developed later in his career that he was proud of but i really dont like that kind of fight scene so its hard to enjoy the action and a pretty image isnt really enough for me. I liked touch of zen for the ghost scene and the monks which were really cool and they played well into the ending, but the others ive seen, left a lot to be desired for me personally. But Chang Cheh i really like. And i love Lo Meng. Hes been a real highlight in every movie he has been in since seeing 5 venoms the first time

Maybe I like finding the western thing in Chinese cinema, that's King Hu for me. Sometimes I find a Ti Lung film and it's excellent, but I do know wht, it's for watching it once. And also, things like The Boxer's Omen, from the era of cheap and creative use of rubber, take me by surprise.

I'm not sure if 'atmosphere' is what impressed me. What I remember the most is the cinematography. Like when the moon comes out the clouds and Asirpa has enough light to fire her arrow at the bear. When Sugimoto stands up on the horse-drawn cart before his escape. The scenes of Diamond Dust in Asirpa's Kotan, or the way the sunlight illuminates the main area of her dwelling. The view from inside the bear's den It was way more animesque than the anime itself.

@@MahiMahi-yu5jo I think a lot of those scenes really contribute to the atmosphere. The cinematography decisions you talk of help with this. This was a nice review ! I think that for adaptations, it's always interesting to hear the perspective of someone that is not familiar with the source material, especially when you yourself are. As a fan of the manga, I think this is an excellent adaptation, even accounting for its flaws. For how the atmosphere compare to the manga, I would say it's fairly different because of the medium but still pretty effective: the manga is gorier and has very striking character designs and imagery that gives it a nice off-kilter vibe. As an aside, GK is insanely well documented, especially when Ainu culture is concerned, so most of what you learn in there is pretty accurate. The movie follows suit: for example the town set is actually an open air museum, the Historical Village of Hokkaido. As for the story, I think the adaptation work is top notch. Most of the changes made to the story are completely justified in my eyes, and since the manga is already finished, they are able to integrate later elements smoothly. Besides the fact that this movie is indeed more of an episode 0 for the TV series, one big criticism I have is that it goes a bit fast compared to the manga, which I feel weakens some of the more emotional scenes. But even then, I feel like the cast and crew really gets GK, and that's the most important. In any case, I hope the drama comes overseas soon (even in Japan it's on a paid channel) and I really recommend reading the manga, it's a top tier work.

@@machikurada4825 Thanks for sharing the additional details and context. It sounds like some of the off kilter design was present in the source material here. I understand the tv show is to bridge between movie 2, which from what i can tell has already been planned. I have high hopes we should get the tv show because the production team seems to have a good relationship woth netflix and the movie was no.1 in a lot of territories. I believe the two guys are really dead. The guys knew they were going to die and accepted their fate. I think the ending was a dark reminder that, no matter how sweet and like the two girls are, they kill people. Maybe they mostly kill gangsters and politicians but they also kill likable people like the two guys. What also cements the likely hood they kill the guys was that the guys crossed the point where they needed to die after shooting the cleaner which appeared got the assassin guild to mobilizing right away, where they found in killed the boys manager. Regarding the movie 3rd being the last of the franchise: I got the strong feeling as well giving how serious the trailer was and the promotional poster going around. One reason for the franchise to end, or at least put on an indefinite hiatus is because the two actresses may have a backlog of requests to be on bigger productions after Baby Assassin really raised their recognition. While Takaishi seemed to already has an established model and acting carrier. This is Izawa's chance to break out of just being a stunt woman and taking acting roles. But that being said, I do hope the franchise goes beyond the TV series and 3rd movie while still retaining the quality.
@BradTalksFilm
@BradTalksFilm 5 ай бұрын
@@doomedspy I think the girls can and have been doing both. Maybe they will take a break, but Takiashi has done lots of projects in between, lots of tv roles. Saori has done a lot of music videos, short, been on stunt work for things like john wick 4 (and i suspect the kingdom sequels) she also, more time consumingly, been involved in a stage show called saga which has had a really long run! So while i think it is true they have big demands for more work, i think they should be able to do both alongside as they have been doing. I know the director wants to take a break to not get burned out but until we see the 3rd ourselves i guess we wont know for certain lol

The last hand to hand action sequence in this movie was amazing and something you would never see in modern Hollywood movies where female fighters are invincible and beat the crap out of larger stronger opponents. The choreography, flow and music was really great. The bodyguard of the Yukaza Boss's Daughter was already established as a one-shot knockout badass in the film. After Mahiro get's disarmed and takes strong blow to the face, she is bloodied and realizing the bodyguard is really strong. She fights hand to hand almost keeping up with the bodyguard but takes serious damage and the situation gets desperate as the music pace of the music quickens. To survive and come out on top she had to use her head (figuratively and literally). I saw the Baby Assassins 2 and I really liked it as well. It looked like the budget of this sequel was a larger than the first movie hinting the first movie must of done pretty well commercially. There's a TV mini-series coming out as well as a third movie. The trailer and the poster of Baby Assassins 3 looks like it might take a more dark and serious tone (might be intended to be the finale of the Baby Assassins franchise). We'll have to see.

The abstract plot summary as an intro action sequence is genius. There's one misplaced comedy scene near the end that seems to drag on forever, but oh well. I also sorta wish the movie didn't handicap Gordon Liu (one of the best screen fighters) halfway through the movie, but the movie's whole thing is that every fight has some odd gimmick, so we end up getting the wheelchair fight, etc. Anyway, this is basically Lau Kar Leung's best fight choreography I think, next to maybe Shaolin Mantis, Martial Arts of Shaolin and Shaolin vs. Wu-tang. (These movies sure do have Shaolin in the titles a lot.)

I really enjoyed your commentary and insight of Baby Assassins 2 and the franchise so far! Hell I even managed to get my friends into and we keep debating if the first or second haves more action and which one is the best so far (I say the second but my friends all agree the first one. It really doesn't matter cuz we love all of them lol). I actually didn't pick up on how each movie seems to focus on one particular girl so I'm curious how they will focus on both of them together in the third one. I agree that I believe the boys are dead too in the sequel because I feel they have served their purpose and I was lowkey worried they will be love interest but glad they weren't. And funny enough, my best friend is starting to see Chisato and Mahiro potentially being a couple after seeing the second one and I can see that vision too if the director goes in that particular route. Would be interesting to see, especially with little hints sprinkling throughout both films. Overall, thanks again for the video and I'm curious to see you do a prediction video off the teaser for third one!
@BradTalksFilm
@BradTalksFilm 8 ай бұрын
So I probably wont make a video prediction for the 3rd movie so I will just tell you what I was thinking. They make reference to a guy called the enforcer. My theory is that he is the guy in the 3rd teaser, it makes sense that they would foreshadow a new character like this and use him. The pre release footage mentions he has "killed 149 people" or something similar. My suspicioun is that he turns on the assassins guild and comes after them. Yugo has revealed some details but I wont share just incase you dont want any spoilers at all. The other thing is who the actor is. They said he was a "leading actor in japanese film" so presumably a big star. And we see his frame too so we know how tall he is and his body type. Which rules out some people, it also is someone who should be familiar with stunts. I suspect if its a younger character it could be someone like Kento Yamazaki or Yuya Yagira. If older im.suspecting someone like Koichi Sato or Takuya Kimura.. but to be honest I dont know. I will probably make a video on 3 and the tv show, but after i see them Im glad you liked the videos and thank you so much for watching. I prefer the first myself but i suspect which one you prefer depends on which girl you relate to more. And i am definitely more of a Mahiro!

The first Apes movie I ever saw was Conquest, our first introduction to "Caesar" and I was hooked! I immediately went and sought out the movies before it, as well as Battle, and I was not disappointed at all! I actually ended up watching Battle before I was able to get my hands on a copy of the first few. I do agree that this movie was rushed out due to the unexpected success of the Original, but I also believe they had different plans for this but were caught in a time crunch. I am so glad of the "rebirth" of the franchise and I really hope that the movies continue. What is so great about a franchise like this, is that there is so much that can be explored and so much story to fill in. I cant wait for Kingdom. As flawed as this movie is, and it is a very flawed movie, it is my favorite of the Apes movies and even my favorite sci-fi movie. I didn’t mind the first half kind of retreading the first movie, with Brent essentially being a stand-in for the audience, learning as he goes along. But once we get underground, that's it. It becomes a whole different movie entirely and so bat sh*t insane that I love it. As a kid I loved the original, but didn’t know about the sequels until I was a teenager. I was so hooked in the first time I watched Beneath, from the left turn it takes in the middle to its shocking finale. If the first movies ending was shocking, then this one is something else entirely. I don't think another movie affected me the way this one did. My 14-year-old self really had to process what I witnessed when it was over after that first time (for perspective, I'm 34 now). And as much as I love it, it still haunts me. Yet its a great B-movie with the best elements of pulp comics and vintage sci-fi thrown in.

@dolphinsrr well what I mean is the lower budget is evident with some of the ape masks. Which I get. You can't apply that kind of makeup on all of those extras. That's a lot. But I also think the ending, despite being one of my favorite parts, feels a bit rushed at times. But that doesn't take away my enjoyment of it. And wasn't Taylor's mission a one-way trip? Why rescue? Unless of course we go on that the signal Landon sent after the crash made its way back through time to Earth's past for them to send out another team to investigate. And our main heroes never really have any important interaction with the big bad, General Ursus. Yeah, Brent kills him, but what about before that? There's really nothing except them crossing paths while Brent plays mute. Again, even with those issues I have, I still love this movie.

The sequel is out. It has more action with the same humor and awkwardness. Baby Assassins is a cult classic in the making. I find it similar to the anime Mezzo Forte, which I also liked minus the nudity.

I loved the secret autism idea thought process, as I also think the Mahiro character is the more interesting of the two but I also hope that the sequel goes into more depth for both of them. I could not stop watching both the action scenes and the scenes of Mahiro trying to communicate or being frustrated. The comedy reminds me a bit of Beat Takeshi's cop and gangster films, where he just doesn't care about his foes, so everything is just matter of fact during confrontation scenes.

I am excited for the sequel and I know its impending a western release soon so we hopefully won't be waiting too much longer. I've heard there is more action in the sequel but hopefully they don't abandon too much of the slice of life stuff for it!

@@popburnsy3207 yes, i have seen that one, admittedly after i made this video. A none canon entry of sorts for the two characters. I dont speak japanese so this might not be 100% accurate, but on twitter the director was talking about how this was a project idea he wanted to do for years, so A janitor was sort of a test drive for the two characters, to both see if they worked for him and to see if the audiences responded to them. I feel like, outside of Honda who is really fun in that one, they really are the standouts in the movie, though they are considerably dialed up in comparison to baby assassins

They knew fine well what they were doing! In Chinese the movie is called something like "what a bad head" so they must have known and did that just for us
