Sorry mate, predictive text….. I meant because of you I bought a peak bow gauge!! Thanks
@StephenG85-qi6ofАй бұрын
I think it’s great you test lines and knot strength………. Manufacturers tell outright lies about line, diameter mostly but I’m sure they do with the strength also. The strength part is more difficult to prove though as they test on proper machines and I believe it’s rated without knots!! Thanks for taking the time to do this, it’s because of your videos that I bought a leak now gauge and now test myself! It would be very interesting to see if the newly released seadra tapered leaders will be stronger than the tronixpro…… newly released seadra is 25lb-100lb!!! Also as you mention on your videos, the memory is quite important also. I believe the only one other than the new seadra that may be really good is the Varivas tapered leader from Veals mail order…… I can imagine that to be decent as their mainlines are really good. Thanks mate!

Thank you for your kind words. It is refreshing to see a different outlook as most are die-hard believers of what's being advertised and yet are too reluctant to test things out for themselves. Even when shown facts like how some brands with the same model and diameters are advertising different break strengths on their boxes to save on printing for different regions, they will still refuse to accept it. 😅 anyway, let me know what your results are. I'll have a look at the line you've mentioned, as well.

So is this line garbage breaking at 33 lb instead of 50
@x3mgrifterАй бұрын
Not really garbage per se since all of the lines in this range practically are priced the same irrelevant of their break strength. So as long as you go over your desired break strength, then you should be ok.

Great video.. What Epoxy are you using to build up the canon? A lot of anglers don't like them or can't get on with it however I like them since I started using them. The only issue is that I prefer all my hand infront of the reel while holding the line but with the canon in order for me to do this the canon has to be mounted well infront of the reel seat but then that caused teh line to reach it at an angle then when I cast the line peels off the reel too quick causing early release. Mounted on the reel seat direct under the spool solves this but then my hand is behind the reel handle which feels weird. Maybe wrapping more wraps round the canon would help. I have found full casting gloves to work too
@x3mgrifterАй бұрын
I use UV cure epoxy to build up the "base." I find moving the casting trigger a bit off center helps to keep it away from the lines when casting. Gloves are nice as well, however, could be dangerous if you forget to tighten before casting as the line can slice through the gloves.

Can there only go a 3000 size reel or a 5000 too if you just buy a other reel can it fit or max 3000?
@x3mgrifter2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, different manufacturers tend to have different measurements for their reel foot. I chose a 3000 reel for this rod after asking sellers for the measurement of a reel foot for a specific make and model reel. Plus, this old reel that I have on this video is also a size 3000 which barely fits. So based on these, the safest I can tell is that a 3000 size reel is the largest it can accommodate.
@TheHatski2 ай бұрын
Had me worried about the reel size, but fits all mine up to the Diawa BG6000MQ. Angry with Shimano as their site says you can add the 'extension' when set up, no need to re thread! Clearly not true, as it's a replacement piece, not an extension.. 😡

Is this a good rod for Chesil beach? I have the newer IMAX intenze
@x3mgrifter2 ай бұрын
As much as I love this rod, I personally think it's too stiff for Chesil. I believe the Akios Fury FX420 with the original tip plus another Fury FX420 with the heavier tip are the best combo for a dual rod set up. Really lightweight (perfect for climbing up the shingles), stiff enough for really casting it out, yet the tips are really sensitive enough to see small nibbles.

Hello mate. Which braid line do you use for this reel? Or do you have any suggestions?
@x3mgrifter2 ай бұрын
I believe i used the Berkley ProSpec Monofilament for this video, if I remember correctly. I was able to fit in 100 metres of line plus 14+ metres of tapered shockleader. There should be a video somewhere on my YT page when I unboxed and lined this reel. As for a line I would recommend, I have yet to use a line better than Daiwa J Braid, probably a 58lb / 0.28mm line. i hope this helps and tight lines!

I find that the only reason it will slip on one turn is if the spool has not been tightened enough. And even if the spool is a bit loose, i haven't had a slip up yet. But that's with my mediocre casting skills, though. 😅

I've seen 30 lb J Braid Grand X8 tested using a machine & scale. They used wraps instead of knots and the braid broke in the middle of the line @ 40.29 lbs ! 8 lb test was breaking @ 20 lbs! I've never heard of J Braid breaking under its advertised weight. Until now.
@x3mgrifter Жыл бұрын
That's the thing... Will the fish you're catching pull on your line nice and slow, and steady, in a perfectly controlled manner, like a machine? Are you not going to use a knot on your hooks and/or end tackles? It does not have to be the J Braid, you can try to repeat the tests I have done by yourself with any line you already have and let us know. 👍Tight lines
@thomaskelly6010 Жыл бұрын
"Break tests and other specs vary depending on how manufacturers test their lines" I really dont see why you are comparing what a fish in the wild does to a line Strength Test. Other stimuli apply when actually fishing. So Apples to Oranges. Knots will always be weaker than the line. Thats a fact. You were testing the line strength not the Knot strength. Two entirely different experiments. But you reported on the knot breaking. Correct? Or am I mistaken. BTW I have already explained I've witnessed similar test before that actually tested the LINE STRENGTH, (several brands) so there is no need for me to conduct another one. We just need a test that actually is accurate. J Braid breaks @ a higher strength than listed on its PKG. @@x3mgrifter

I think loading it with braid would have been better since 100m of line will leave you very close to being spooled after even a moderate cast.
@x3mgrifter Жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, you are quite right. The lines were all out on each cast even before the lead touches the water. The only reason I used monofilament in the video is that I didn't think I had enough braid at the time of shooting and this particular line of spool was pretty much full. I did eventually lined the spare spool with braid. Anyway, thanks for watching. 👍
@richardjones2811 Жыл бұрын
@@x3mgrifter And how did that work for you with braid? A lot of these shallow spare spools don't hold enough braid either. Would be so much better if they were sent with 2 deep spools instead. I think the shallow spool is designed to be sold to the American market where they use these reels for spinning and boat fishing where we use them from the shore.
@x3mgrifter Жыл бұрын
I still empty the spool every now and then. And with the tapered shallow spool, it's really easy to get wind knots. But for mackerel fishing, this combined with the akios fury fx20, this is really ideal as it's a really light setup.

Yeah, it seems like depending on what continent you're in, the same line is advertised in different break strengths.
