Dan, people in the know, do not look at Carter as phony anymore, and one main reason for that is Darryl Strawberry as Straw has killed any idea that "Kid" had any fake bone in his body. If a reader here has no clue to what I'm talking about, simply look up some Darryl Strawberry comments on Carter. True story: I was 15 years old in 88 when I along with two friends cut class and had absolutely no where to go. We decided to get on the 7 train and try to sneak into Shea Stadium. We actually and made it into the Met bullpen when a grounds crew member yelled at us - we finally left. After we left, we noticed two or three buses in front of the old Diamond Club. The Mets were heading to the airport. For some reason, there was a large group of people there. I don't understand it because it was a weekday (we cut school) but about 100 autograph seekers were there. Gary Carter signed every request for an autograph - EVERY FUCKING ONE!. Players like Cone, Fernandez, HoJo, Davey Johnson, and Mazzilli all signed a couple and then left. Keith Hernandez just ignored everyone. Bob Murphy told me, "Not now, son." when I asked him for his signature. Not Carter. He signed every damn one! I'll never forget that. Every fucking one! The guy wasn't phony. Carter was legit! Thank you, Darryl for killing that whole damn narrative about his great man.

Gary Carter was my favorite Baseball player and i patterned my game after his as a kid. I wish i could have thanked him in person for an autograph he sent to me when i was 14. He had no idea how much it meant to a poor kid from Queens. ❤

He straight up strung his guitar and said.. she sits alone by a lamp post and took me back in time for a second. That's called ART. I literally left my thoughts to think about it. Explain ART how you wanna but art is different to ERR ON. Even you New Orleans assholes

well, it must be nice, to be an elite asshole that has that ability to ask an MLB player to do such a thing, at a moment like that. Congratulations.

Kid Carter could not hide his BALD SPOT no matter how hard he tried...s aw Kid getting his perm done at a woman's salon on upper east side along w/ his wife getting her horrible BLONDE DYE JOB. Gary came out looking more like Joan Rivers than his newly blonde wife.

i was born in 83. i met mookie wilson as a small child on westchester square in the bronx at some store. He signed autographs, and I no more than 5-6 wrote a letter to Gary Carter and asked Mookie to give it to him. He did. (which is awesome by itself). Gary read my letter, sent me back 4 or 5 baseballs signed two video tapes 1 in particular i wore out called think big. he sent photos signed to me, hand wrote a personal letter responding to things i wrote in my letter which according to my mother was rough due to my age. nothing in my life has meant more to me or is more sentimental than that.

While an Expo, the "Kid" once signed a ball to a cousin of mine who was battling what would be terminal cancer. But it wasn't just a signature, it was a message of hope and perseverance. Gary Carter was a treasure.
