We do a lot more practice stepping up on things in the front than balance with our toe up on something in the back. Plus with the foot in the front, you have the plantar surface of the foot to weight bear thru for balance. Not true in the back

@pediatricPTexercises10 сағат бұрын
Back Extension is one of the first muscle groups that develop strength. In sitting, you have to learn to balance the muscles all around the trunk. This can be really hard to learfor the kids who get stuck in the extension strategy. I work on this a lot wit Everett. Maybe his playlist will help kzbin.info/aero/PLAkJbMrHyKjPqgM4rbEV8G1bMdC1Dyzaw&si=_BFjsDt1r9HZ1ygK

Certainly Torticollis is an imbalance in strength around the neck. You have to improve the range of movement and the strength in all directions

Hi, I am a PT student may i know why single leg standing considered to be harder with leg backward than forward??
@pediatricPTexercises10 сағат бұрын
Generally, people are better with movements of all types in forward space than backward space. We have more experience with forward space than backward space. As well, when your foot is in the front you’re able to weight bear through your foot with the bottom of your foot. When your foot is up in the back, you are weight-bearing with the top of your foot, which is much less helpful.

So glad you were able to identify this need and make it public. How do people in Massachusetts, and the rest of this country continue to let this happen? I’m curious how she became housed.

Thank you for watching this video. I found it jaw dropping. I don’t know the details of that but I imagine we will discuss that in a future video
@ALACGltd4 күн бұрын
Hello Lee! Thank you very much for your comment. In terms of how does Massachusetts and the rest of the country let this happen, I would like to give you a short answer. I was made aware of some housing vouchers that were available to young people who experienced homelessness. There weren’t that many that would come up and I have no idea how the selection process would happen. I did have help applying to those but never got selected. Likewise to get a bed in a youth shelter for night times. It was a lottery withdrawal and I never got selected. What I noticed systemically is if you went for housing options you’d get stuck when it came to credit checks and references as well. I would still be homeless if it wasn’t for a single woman who decided to put her foot down and navigate the larger system for me. You’ll hear more about her soon. The other thing that caused my homelessness to persist was even when I had employment rent cost more than my monthly income. I remained homeless for quite some time because I didn’t know that my disabilities would aid in my application. I even worked with a social worker at Spaulding hospital but the issues came down to availability. There’s not enough vouchers and units for folks experiencing homelessness. One thing I will let people know when Massachusetts has temperatures below -10 and worse with wind chill is that one big homeless shelter called pine street , will open their doors and people sleep on the floors and without beds but that’s considered just for life saving measure. I never went inside though because I was worried about getting robbed

Hii Mam..My son is suffereing from mild cerebral palasy..He is doing tip toe walking in left leg alone..How to cure This Mam .Is it necessary to take genetic test
@pediatricPTexercises14 күн бұрын
I recommend you find a local therapist who can customize a program to your son. If this is indeed mild cerebral palsy, no genetic test is needed. I recommend in general that you work on weight shift to that leg and strengthening with stretching to make sure that he does not develop range of motion limitations. All those details would be best figured out with the assistance of a local therapist

Your story made me so emotional. My son also born premature (1 and a half month) started vomiting when he came from from his 18 day stay in NICU. We were so worried he used to gag and cough and projectile vomit several times a day. It got so much worse around when he was 2.5 months old vomiting 6 or 7 times a day. No doctor understood his vomiting and criticised on his poor weight gain. It was after I recorded one of his vomiting session that they started taking it seriously and did a series of tests he was prescribed omeprazole and he still vomited , ruled out pyloric stenosis, and saw all different types of specialists for basically everything. I couldn’t breastfeed due to his lip tie as well and he has been on formula since the very beginning, he still vomits even though i have started him on solids and its so difficult .I am working on his head control , he has a head lag , back dominance, neck arching, cant push up on his arms ( he also struggles with constipation, gas and has anemia of prematurity) Seeing this video made made me so emotional as i went through and am still going through all these struggles that erika and ilya went through

First of all, I wanted to say thank you for such great videos. It's the best information I could find regarding the tortocollis. You are doing a great job. I asked my family doctor during the 6 weeks and 3 months appointment regarding the baby assymetry, and both times, they told me that the baby is fine. It feels that all lids should be assessed by the physiotherapist. I booked an appointment and while waiting for it, I'm following all yours recommendations. I just hope that 4 months is not to late. I just have couple of questions: At what stage is the helmet required? Will face features get improved after the aggressive repositioning?
@pediatricPTexercises24 күн бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. I take them into my heart. 4-6 months is considered ideal for banding. Face asymmetries improve best when babies are younger but still can as older with the aggressive positioning. I have a cranial banding video that I still need to produce. Thanks for the motivation
@brendanorton128125 күн бұрын
AMY what do you think of Jolly Jumpers for Down’s syndrome babies?
@pediatricPTexercises24 күн бұрын
Hmmm. Well, I believe they are not recommended by the American Medical Association because of the risk of injury. If you decide to do it you would want to make sure that they could not push with their legs enough to cause damage to themselves on the door frame. They also need the head control to be safe. In general, physical therapists are not proponents of “containers” and think free play and exploration are best. You will need to make your own decision.
@brendanorton128124 күн бұрын
@ They do make them with frames now and adjustable height levels so they’re just not on their toes and using their whole feet to push off… I think I’ll try it. It could only help with the tone of their lower extremities not for long periods of time.
@plnpunch26 күн бұрын
I'd love your advice for babies who are have low responsiveness to their surroundings ie. not reaching, following, or showIng interest . How can I encourage that kind of baby to move and do PT?
@pediatricPTexercises25 күн бұрын
Well, the first thing you need to determine is why the baby is not doing that. Is it because they can’t see well? Is it because they don’t have the energy, do they have heart problems? Are they not interested in what is around them? Are they ill? Are they too weak? Do you need to have more easily activated toys and objects around them? Often I will try increasing sensory input for these children. Making sure parents are talking to them a lot. Playing different music, reading stories, singing songs, Doing infant massage. Trying providing different tactile input. Try different mediums such as seeing how they react in the water. These would all be things that would be best problem solved with a local therapist.
