The lyrics and music were written by Glenn Miller band pianist J. C. (Chummy) McGregor and arranger George “The Fox” Williams with later additional lyrics added by Songwriters Hall of Fame lyricist Sonny Skylar when Woody Herman covered the song in 1944. "It Must Be Jelly" was originally recorded by Glenn Miller in 1942 for RCA Victor but not released until 1944. In 1944, the 78 Victor single reached no. 2 on the Billboard Harlem Hit Parade chart, which later became the R&B chart. The song was a staple of the I Sustain the Wings radio program hosted by Captain Glenn Miller in 1943 and 1944. It was featured by the U.S. Army Air Force Band led by Glenn Miller. Woody Herman covered the song in 1944 and it was also featured as a V Disc. Dancer Doris York was a New York-based dancer who appeared in nightclubs and stage revues but was most active on Broadway. In the 1940s she appeared in seven productions. York brought in income by appearing in Soundies as a dancer or sideline extra during this period. This Soundie was released on March 18, 1946.

If I had been making this tease, I would have had a slightly different ending. When the Magician steps away to read the How to Influence book, we wouldn’t have seen him with the wand. His hands were full with the book. Suzanne sees the Magic book and goes over to read it out of curiosity. When she leafs her way to the page of most interest, we see first her growing amazement with it. Then her delight in what she found. She quickly glances up towards the Magician to make sure that she hasn’t been discovered, and there is a quick shot of the magic wand laying on the table. As the Magician seems have found out what he wanted and closes the book, we see Suzanne scamper back to her position and pose provocatively once more. Still smiling a now fake smile and an intense gaze. While he is primping himself to now claim his creation, she breaks the 4th wall winking knowingly at the audience, and looking eyes up in an expression of sheer disgust of the Magician and what he wants with her. Then, when he advances on her, she whips out the wand from behind her back and banishes him with it. She then poses again, pirouetting once more to give us one more full look at her, while laughing delightfully at hew new freedom, before looking down her body. Not liking what she sees, she takes the wand and swipes it down from neck to waist, immediately transforming back to how she was dressed when she first appeared. She looks herself over, smiling in approval. Then tucks the wand safely deep down into her cleavage. Finally she walks over to the table and picks up both books, that will tell her everything that she will ever need to know, and walks out of the frame and into our world-leaving us wondering just where we might encounter her. And hoping that she likes us better than she liked the Magician. After all, she has one hot little body that is going to need a lot of satisfaction.
