All of Matthew’s stories have a hero. In its classical definition, a hero is simply the protagonist, or the main character. He needn’t be some great conqueror. In fact, many heroes in stories have a tragic flaw that leads to their downfall, just as often occurs in Matthew’s stories. A story can be a comedy or a tragedy. Today, we think of comedy as a funny story. In Shakespeare’s time, a comedy was simply a story with a happy ending, while a tragedy ends unhappily. Matthew certainly employs the hero’s journey, even if he is not aware of it.

Lord of the Rings explains the importance of purpose, heros, friendship, community, and journey,. If that's not understanding yourself better, I don't know what is. You're consciousness of a change inside yourself and the actual change are two different things. Most stories operate at a sub-conscious level. We learn the American Dream before we have a formal name for it. The same goes for all stories. Also, the Heros Journey and the fall aren't mutually exclusive. You can have both. I would say a number of Matthew's stories are actualluy hero's journey if we think about it more deeply. Not to mention, law and order is both. Lord of the Rings is both. Star Wars and the other parts of the series is both. So, this massive contrast he's drawing seems to be rather. I'll concede, the larger issue of underplaying and underlooking this other aspect of story is a tradgedy. To be fair, humans need inspiration in both directions. Human strengths and weakness both need to be discussed if a work is to connect and resonate and if it is be real, truthful, and wise. So perhaps I'm agreeing more with Matthew that I would like to admit.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. He seems to be taking a very narrow definition of the heroes journey.

Marketing is easily the most important part of a business. It also seems to encompass almost every other aspect of the business. That's why a strategy is so important!
