Claire you are incredibly talented. Im in my 40s now and recently picked up pencils after being inspired to draw my dog after he passed away in March. Crazily the drawing turned out way better than i could have ever expected so i'm inspired to continue on. ive been looking for tutorials to draw animals but funds are very limited so i want to make sure i pick the right teacher for me and what i want to achieve. I love your style and the vibrant realism you create. I dont have watercolor pencils though. i have a full set of prismacolors and a bunch of polychromos ive picked up here and there. I bought a bottle of gamsol to try so would this do the same trick as using watercolor? Will the gamsol dissolve the polys and the prismas in the same way (wax vs oil)? i have fabriano 300gsm extra white paper. i only tried the gamsol once before on bristol vellum and i ruined my drawing with it but i imagine it would work better on watercolor paper? Sorry for all the questions. I checked out your website and i think there is more than enough content on your patreon to justify me joining. Its just that you use a lot of watercolor pencils so i want to make sure id still get the most out of your tutorials. Thank you so much for your time

Hi Liam, Thank you so much for your kind words about my work. It's great to hear you're considering joining my Patreon. I'm glad you like the subjects I have available, I try to offer a wide variety to keep things interesting. As for the watercolour pencils, only about 30% of my tutorials feature them. The rest use dry coloured pencils. Don't feel like you have to buy watercolour pencils (although they are incredible and achieve stunning results). You can use Gamsol, which works well with all the oil and wax pencils you are using. However, I highly recommend getting the “White” Museum Aquarelle pencil-there's no white like it, and it will make your life much easier! The Fabriano 300gsm paper is perfect! it’s my favourite. I use the 640gsm one because I prefer handling a thicker sheet, but otherwise, there is no difference. I find Bristol vellum and smooth quite limited and not a nice surface to work on, but that’s just my personal opinion. I hope this answers all your questions.
