Ive always been very welcoming but lately we only have this kind of tourists... doing everything they want, without respecting peoples properties (just because there are no boundaries, that doesnt mean its not someones property), public places (for gods sake, its disrespectful to stay in a place that is of everyone... its not your camping site) and our forest and mountains that now are full of trash... yes... tourists go around everywhere, doing their business since theres no toilets in the mountains and leaving their shit and toilet paper in site. How wonderfull these tourists are. Yeah... its a fact. Madeirans have always been known for their friendliness... so dont be surprised if you find the opposite.. we are getting more and more tired of this. And just so you know.... those paths will cease to be free, finally. Theres so many tourists that its become a serious problem in some places.

@sarafaria4155 I beg you, don't paint all tourists with the same brush. It is the few who ruin it for the many. Yes, increased tourism has pro's and con's and education is more effective than chastisement

In Ho Chi Minh city, there are Empire City Thủ Thiêm ( district 2, or its Thu Thiem - Thủ Đức city now ), they will plan 88-storey tower there in 2027. And Sala city ( district 2, and a Thu Thiem too ), New Metropole River Thủ Thiêm ( Thu Thiêm but near district 1 ), Thảo Điền walking street ( district 2, its for foreigners ! ) , Van Phuc City ( Thủ Đức ). For district 7, theres Phu My Hung Urban ( district 7- connect to Nhà Bè district, district 7 is hub for international education, with Crescent Lake Bán Nguyệt Walking street and Crescent Shopping mall). If you want to walk in shopping, go Estella Place district 2, Giga mall in district 9-Thủ Đức , Van hanh mall district 10, Lotte Mall district 7, SC Vivo district 7, China town in district 5 and 6 and 11, Christian neighborhoods in district 8 ( some new shopping malls ), Landmark Urban 81storey tower in Bình Thạnh district, and many many shopping places in the future. You can try to expolore district 3, 4, 12, Phú Nhuận, Bình Chánh, Bình Tân, Tân Bình, Tân Phú, Hóc Môn, Củ Chi ( still wild, but will have some future project there ), Gò Vấp ...., some those places are quite far away and I don't know what's interesting there, maybe temples and churches Its grand park district 9 too, the same with landmark urban, but it doesnt have 81 storey tower, so if you walk for theme park, ,s,h,o,p,p,i,n,g, luxury urban, 81 storey, go landmark 81 as i mentioned, its korean - vietnamese urban. And many many more urbans and walking streets.

It would be nice to ask for a permit to camp wild. No wonder people later get fed up of turists who do that. I love camping outside but I do check local laws. Besides the permits, you have designated camping sites. You do not respect in this way the local culture, local wildlife. Imagine now 10000people going and doing it. Do you see it as a correct and responsible way of travelling? I do not think so unfortuantely.

Hey, nice video footage 👍 But I have to say it: WILD CAMPING in Madeira is ILLEGAL. There are designated camping spots for camping, to which you need a PERMIT (same for drones BTW). BTW, maybe it was just an honest mistake, but the camping spot in Pico Ruivo isn't on the summit, but a bit lower (where the green tent is in 10:09). I'm definitely not a fan of restricting what people can do in nature, but when there's dumb/misinformed or disrespectful people (or just lots of people), you need rules. Regarding camping, the main obvious issues are: camping in dangerous places, camping on (or too close to) the trail, and above all, leaving trash & poop/papers around. If people were respectful and didn't do these, it probably wouldn't be forbidden to wild camp. And if people keep doing it more, there'll be more control/surveillance and higher fines. Edit: Having said this, I think it's pretty clear why there's space to camp in 12:08 (it's forbidden & people follow the rules). And this camping spot ticks most boxes when it comes to where not to camp: it's in the middle of (the most popular) trail and it's in a dangerous place (for you & other hikers). I just hope you left the place as you found it (leaving no trash & no trace) - to me and most others this is by far the most important.

Did that northern end of the Bangor Trail two years ago in September and vowed I'd never do it again. Last June during a bit of a mini heatwave i did a high level route on the hills over it, and it was far more pleasant, i returned, however via the trail and despite great weather leading up to it, it was still the wettest walk in Ireland, and I've been all over the country. Very few redeeming qualities. I stopped at the bothy for a coffee break, and thought it a good job, i wonder though does it get much use? Ps. A question? The way you exited back to the N59, would that make a good way in for someone wanting a bothy night, i get the impression that the roadway in is possibly private? TIA if you get to answer. Great video, thanks.
@CatchMeOutside2478 ай бұрын
Glad you agree George. Hopefully some funding will be secured where they can repair the path and ibstall drainage. From what I understand, the road is public. However, beyond the dwellings is private land. So that might limit the use of the road to that of an escape route

Campsite 1 - Achadaz da Cruz - park at the Achadaz da Cruz cable car (check closing times) and ride the car to the base of the cliffs. Then follow the path as far sout west as as possible. You'll likely have to skirt around a few allotments to find the campsite. It should take around 30 mins with no stops once you exit the cable car.
@CatchMeOutside24710 ай бұрын
Campsite 2 - Pico Ruivo - This is the only campsite that required a permit that was secured online without issue. Secure it ASAP. Park at the car park at the start of the PR1.2 hiking route and follow the path to the summit of Pico Ruivo. 45 mins to 1 hour. Get there early to get a good pitch.
@CatchMeOutside24710 ай бұрын
Campsite 3 - Pico do Ariero - Parked at the car park at the radar station and followed the PR1 path to Miradouro Pedra Rija, which is the campsite. Roughly 30 mins from the car.
