Methinks master cylinder will be the culprit in the end. Flexi hoses after the rear caliper overhaul, and if that don’t solve it…swap the abs unit! Lots of good content there! Enjoying it…good luck.

@JonCoupland l know you have to be so careful on you tube but your father is obviously are trained mechanic and what he is doing with the brakes on your very nice Proton Impilla is he is going through a process of elimination and your very good Proton has very low miles so it is something simple and he isn't going down the road of throwing parts at it as what happens in the USA with all there not formerly trained mechanics were fortunately in Australia been a Comonwealth country we do a formerly recognised apprentice scheme as in the UK were the first thing a mechanic should do is analyse the problem and repair what is wrong

If you do the rears and still havent found the smoking gun, it could be air in the ABS module. Ideally you'd be able to bleed/actuate it with a scan tool, but if you dont have access go that, it could be a small amount of air and you can try and bleed it by getting the ABS to engage a few times. I find that an empty gravel road and a few hard brake applications from low speed firms the pedal right up on some cars if you cant actuate the module electronically
@JonCoupland
@JonCoupland 16 сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching - not sure if you saw part 1 last weekend - we sadly cant get the ABS to engage with a tool BUT tried to bleed by firing it manually and nothing seemed to come out. Back to the drawing board im afraid.

The second photo really shows the fracture. Looking along the edge of the crack, it looks like the metal has been flexing up and down for maybe years, because there is what looks like rust along the edge. So it started to fracture, rain got in, a few more weeks or months of flexing and the area was becoming weaker Eventually the top part pulled away from the bottom. Maybe the forces on that bracket were never properly calculated during the design, or the quality of the steel used, or the manufacturing process itself was not good. It looks like a very heavy car with a heavy engine.

Ah, 1980s-era UK car air conditioning. A good tip to get a good idea what the likely overall condition of a used car in the UK is is to do a bit of homework and see where it was originally registered, there are plenty of websites that can tell you where the vehicle was registered from the identification letters in the registration. A good simple guide is that South Coast vehicles often tend to be better structurally, Greater London vehicles tend to be structurally decent but are often quite knocked about bodily. Welsh vehicles I would generally expect to be parts vehicles only, Midland cars are a crap shoot, some can be good but others can be rotten and generally anything registered north of the Midlands is likely to be rotten. Scotland, well, see above. Sadly East Anglian vehicles tend to be ropey due to the amount of snow it gets in the average winter and so the amount of road grit that goes down. My sister's old 1.5GL SE, originally registered in Surrey, was like new underneath despite being over 20 years old and 240,000 miles up when her loser ex-husband wrote it off by supergluing the locks. Her insurance company wouldn't let her buy the salvage so it became Chinese baked bean tins. The replacement Persona Compact SE that I found for her was registered less than a mile from where I'm sitting right now on the central South Coast was also rock solid underneath, if a bit surface rusty, and went to a friend of hers when it was replaced by a Mobility car. It continues to pass MoTs to this day but is probably on borrowed time due to ULEZ.

@@JonCoupland Yup, the good old early- to mid-80s Mitsubishi Lancer and Colt were the Proton's parents, though in the UK we never saw a Lancer 5-door hatchback like the Proton Aeroback. That's probably the reason why the Proton was so popular in the UK as that era of Mitsubishi were ultra-reliable cars. And Proton did improve on the Mitsubishi rust resistance too. It was the Proton Persona Compact that was based on the Mitsubishi Mirage.

I always say the best way to judge the pronunciation of a name is how it’s said in the advert. Therefore it’s “Kah”. As in the Ford ad of the time, “Get into the Ka(h)”… likewise, Primark is Pree-mark, not Pry-mark , as in their 1980’s Christmas ad, (at least over here in the north of Ireland) Preemark has a whole lot of things for Christmas, and also, at least over here, it’s Lee-dil, not Lid-il…!
