I started watching this video but stalled on the Pedigree chart stage. Why oh why don't people producing these charts understand family dynamics.? I'm sure US families had the same problems as I had with my rural Welsh families . Namely mothers died during/ after childbirth or from diseases and the men needed a wife to run the home and bring up the children regardless of their social position. In my family history I have many example of say 3 children with wife no 1 followed quite quickly by wife no 2 with many more children. These printed charts are absolutely hopeless for this quite common situation. I do though like the idea of a chart at the start of the binder and it is one I'll start constructing for my own system.

My melungeon ancestors were directly included in Brent Kennedy's book. My preferred theory of the origins of Melungeons were that they are the descendents of Spanish slave sailors who were dumped off on the coast before the gold laden galeons sailed on over across the ocean to go back to Spain. Basically, the Spanish didn't want to risk a mutiny from the slave sailors on thier ships all laden with gold.

All of my family identifies as black, but here's the situation with my mom's relatives. My granddaddy (my mom's father) was from Tennesse. He had light skin, medium brown coily hair, and green eyes. He was pale af and could pass for white. His sister had dark brown skin, dark brown curly hair, and dark brown eyes. They had a common Irish surname. Sadly, other than his sister, I don't know about his other family members. Now that he's dead, I can't ask him. His sister didn't talk about their side of the family, and my mom doesn't talk about Granddaddy at all. Ever. My grandma (my mom's mother) was from Mississippi. She had light skin too, but brown eyes, dark brown coily hair, and Native features. Her history is a little vague too. She was an orphan who lived with her grandmother. Great-grandma had caramel colored skin, dark brown curly hair like Danielle's hair texture before relaxers, and Native features. My mom has caramel colored skin, dark brown eyes, Native features, and had dark brown coily hair before she went gray. One of her brothers is pale af like Granddaddy, the rest of her siblings are caramel, with dark eyes and dark brown coily hair. What throws me off is my grandfather's green eyes. Where did they come from? My mom has no idea why his eyes were that color. What secrets have he taken to the grave? Why won't my mom talk about him? Hey, maybe we're Melungeon! I mean, I can do the squat lol

This is so cool. My grandmother's maiden name is Goodman. I just got into ancestry and happened upon my great-great-grandmother Susie Goodman. She looks like she fell right out of a book about Melungeons. And if the physical traits are to be believed. I have the bump and the teeth. Everything I found so far points to her being part of *that* Goodman clan.

I would say it’s multi-generational mixed people. Not bi-racial people. People who have so much mixing through the generations that you can’t pinpoint which ancestor what ethnicity came from. Because they’re all mixed. My family has been mixing since 1720 at least.

That "bump" could it possibly be the external occipital protuberance? This is the anatomical term for a certain bone in the skull that is prominent in some people. It would be at the level of the back label of a person's baseball cap, I think. The bones of the human skull are separate in infants but fuse together as the infant develops.❤

My own research I've come to have found out, Christianity: Christ anti, better understood as anti-christ Christ is thee anti-christ. Jesus is Lucifer offspring of David son of the Dawn or in other words son of the light, morning Star, Jesus bearer of the light, in Latin bearer of the light means Lucifer. Repent if religious for the love of life, thank you. My wellist wishes for you .

My DNA test showed 97% northern European but the rest equal parts native American, West African, and Portuguese. My great great grandfather was from southern Virginia near the North Carolina border and my great great grandmother was from Kentucky. We have no records before them. They moved to a city that was a hub for the underground railroad and the 1850 census records indicated he lived in a part of town that was primarily free blacks and his brother worked for a mulatto furniture maker from the same place in Virginia. I've puzzled about the Portuguese DNA. Now I'm wondering if I have some Melungeon history. I think that'd be pretty cool.

In Wales Evans is very common surname as is Jones, Morgan, Hughes, Jenkins and Edwards. The Madoc story interests me however, in that the Welsh word for yellow is melyn and the Welsh for white is gwyn. Melyngwyn...together would mean yellow-white. Just curious as melungeon..could be variation of the Welsh melyngwyn?.

Why would a family member have a total of 6 siblings and the Mother and Father Proceed all but two of them in death, but she had the audacity to put erected by her actual name on her Mother's tomb stone and her Mother's name and no date of birth or date of death and did the same thing on her Auntie's .I don't care if it was before I was born. I thought it was disrespectful. I didn't know cemeteries allowed this foolishness.

Keep in mind just how quickly dna testing results "disappear." I am half Armenian with a 100% Armenian, indigenous father. My great-grandchildren are probably 6% Armenian. Their children will likely be the last to show Armenian dna. Five generations and "gone."

I am from Georgia, and i wanted to comment on your section on hands with pointing forefingers. It's handed down around here that a hand pointing down usually means a sudden, unexpected death and the pointing down signifies a call for the mourners to reflect on this sudden death and think about how life is fleeting. The hand pointing up usually means a long life or a life well-lived with the expectation that the soul has departed to Heaven. Just wanted to add that perspective.
