I have watched a few of these, and they follow a theme: ask a few hostile questions, then declare "tough!". Had the barrister been pimped by a solicitor, with the prospect of payment, then I suspect the antagonism would be reduced. Anybody involved in the legal system knows that, however good one's defence, legal cases are a gamble, so to risk £275 to get £550 back would have been unwise.

Think of it like this people. If I were to post, say, a useful widget in a jiffy bag through your letterbox that you didn't ask for, then 2 days later I knock on your door and ask if you opened the package and used it, then when you told me you weren't interested in it and threw it in the bin I called you a liar and demanded payment for it I'd be breaking the law. This, in effect is what the BBC is doing. They send an unsolicited signal across the top of your home that, in 2024 SHOULD BE ENCRYPTED. No excuses. They leave it free to access and then demand payment for it.

There are two circumstances where you supplier is allowed to change your existing meter for a smart one, if it develeops a fault as in this case, or if it is at the end of it's working life. The only other option that some suppliers offer is for a replacement meter of a similar type to be fitted, but they can charge you for this option But you can ask as said below for a smart meter to be switched to a non-smart mode.

You do NOT need to have a smart meter fitted. The guy was very sarcastic and maybe he wasn't being straight with his answer. You can refuse a smart meter. And one can prove the electric meter supplier and company are telling the truth. The guy isn't exactly being honest!

I am honestly baffled at why we have to pay a TV licence to a single broadcast company in order to watch shows aired live (in the case of sports) or on a schedule by OTHER broadcasters. Will Heinz introduce a cooker licence?

I'm amazed that anyone (a) asks for references and (b) still gives them . They are just so prone to abuse. Try to keep a good employee by giving a bad ref or trying to get rid of one by giving an overly positive one. Utterly pointless. They are really worth nothing. For these reasons, subjective references are no longer relevant. My understanding is that most places of business will only acknowledge open facts e.g. length of service, maybe job duties ,etc. That's it. They are an anachronism and should be given the boot.
