Those days i haunted the West Coast Main Line Wolverton area- just as much variety- nowadays BOTH places, its class 66 rubbish and never ending freightliners!!

It's definitely okay there, myself and a few others use it. For this shot I'm standing on a mound of rubble/mud which gives you the height to see over the palisade fencing. There's also a lower down shot just along from the mound for anything coming south, but it's a bit overgrown. @maisie_d213

It's between Whittlesey and March, or to be more precise between Coates and Turves. If you look on maps the road is Turf Drove.

Another good video, quality audio visual. However, the procession of Class 66 with intermodals (with the odd other motive power for relief) hardly gets too exciting. Not when compared to your 1980/90s films around Rugby and Midland mainline with a wealth of motive power on passenger, mails and freight duties - those were the days! Thanks for filming, editing and sharing today's scene though 👍
@MrDeltic1512 күн бұрын
Thanks. Yes, it's very different these days, but then I guess a lot of other things have changed too. Most of my trips out these days tend to be centered around one or two STP workings with the older locos in charge, but you can't really avoid Class 66s these days, just like we couldn't avoid Class 47s back in the 80s & 90s I guess.

Sorry. dude .... had to stop watching. It was all doing my head in !!! 1. Get another font for your comments. 2. Monitor how KZbin treats your comment (unless it's you!!). Like, Drs is not DRS. Gbrf is not GBRf. And what does DRIFT even mean? Otherwise, I'm here cos you were Keith's pal. Good luck, eh .......
@MrDeltic1515 күн бұрын
Fair enough. So 1, maybe because I've started to try colour-coding the comments to match the operator they're less clear, but nobody has ever mentioned this as a problem before over the last decade or more. 2, I don't understand what you mean about KZbin monitoring the comments or is it me? As for DRS not Drs and GBRf not Gbrf, these are the correct way the trains report as listed on RealTimeTrains, Railcam, Freightmaster, FreightLocate, etc. DIRFT(not DRIFT)stands for Daventry International Railfreight Terminal, but I also add the Nortoft Lane location. I had a look at your channel to see how I should be doing it, but didn't find anything to help me.
@055deltic14 күн бұрын
Its not DRIFT - it is DIRFT (Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal) Granted its all intermodal containers (seen one, seen 'em all) but still interesting to see wagons that may arrive from Wentloog on continent, on their way as Anglo-Scottish traffic to Mossend, Millerhill in matter of hours

@MrDeltic1512 күн бұрын
Yes, it's not the same these days, but at least we still have a handful of Class 91s for now. The GWR Castle HSTs haven't much longer left, and then the Scotrail Inter7City HSTs will be after those, and then it really is the end of an era.

How big is the layout? Is it 10 ft by 15 ft? The reason why I ask is because I've got a model railway shed which will soon have the work benches laid out but I want to get a glimpse of what 10 ft x 15 ft would look like.
@MrDeltic1512 күн бұрын
The room it's in is 4m x 2.5m, and as you can probably see from how the layout fits in there that allows for a walkway in from the door and the centre open operating area. Hope that helps, and good luck with your project.

I spent many hours at Kettering station, trainspotting in the 50's. My friends had to pay 1d for a platform ticket, but 1 was allowed in for nothing as my dad used to work in the big loco shed. Great days, a couple of hours on the platform and then go scrumping in the hillyhollies off Northfield Ave. We got caught once, a chap was waiting for us near his apple trees. He chased us under the railway tunnel and up Meadow Rd. He caught me outside the gas works and gave me a thick ear. We switched our scrumping raids to an orchard behind the Poppies football ground. Smashing days.
@MrDeltic1512 күн бұрын
Those were the days! You'll have seen even more changes that I have there then. I hardly ever visit the station these days, but then it's pretty much unit central now.
@waynehyde-iu4jb11 күн бұрын
@@MrDeltic15 Do you remember the turntable? My dad was a fire lighter in the loco shed, and he used to give a hand when needed to help turning engines around. I seem to recall they rotated a big metal wheel to turn the table, but I was only a nipper so I may have got the wheel bit wrong. Do you know if Rushton station is a private dwelling now or owned by a steam preservation society?
@MrDeltic1511 күн бұрын
The turntable was before my time I'm afraid, but I've seen a few photos of the old shed and locos. There would most likely have been a large metal wheel on cogs to rotate the turntable manually. Rushton station is a private dwelling as far as I know, having been redeveloped a bit in a recent years along with the more modern houses in the old station yard there.

@MrDeltic1512 күн бұрын
Thank you very much. Yes, I loved it down here with all the loco-hauled stock and HSTs back then. Very different these days of course, the station and stock much brighter/cleaner than back then, but it's just not as interesting with today's motive power.

How much nicer and neater the catenery is wrt Kettering which looks like Woodhead?
@MrDeltic1512 күн бұрын
It's interesting comparing the short section they had to replace when doing the dive-under(just visible in the background here)as you can clearly see the difference in the late 1980s masts compared to those that appeared from the early 2000s.
