For the area without 2-stud access how about one screw into the stud and wall anchors to stabilize each end . Weight would be limited-no Britannia. Thanks.

The Studley tool chest is an example of the danger of reverence. Yes, it should be admired- but not revered. I have read the book (Virtuoso) because I am constructing my own chest. So I have paid particular attention to the construction and detail. It is a good, perhaps great, tool chest. But it is not perfect- far from it. Revering something means you understand less about it, not more.

Is the spindle powerful enough, what size is it ?
@wdshpbiz
@wdshpbiz Ай бұрын
The spindle is 2HP and can handle up to 3/8-inch tools with the right collet (it comes with 1/4 and 1/8 collets). It's air-cooled and runs from 8,000 to 24,000 rpm. With the correct feeds and speeds programmed, it has cut or carved whatever I've put into the machine from solid wood up to 2 inches thick to typical sheet goods such as plywood and MDF up to 3/4-inch thick.

I surprised there aren't more views & comments. Yours is the only review that shows the joint placed on the end of the stock, demonstrating that it fits well in both dimensions. Thank you!

Beautiful door. I am in the middle of hanging my interior bookcase 10" deep shelves swinging door. Everything is flush, level, and plumb however... The bottom facia of the front side of the bookcase is catching, and if you lift it too high it comes off of the thrust bearing = dangerous! So my assumption is that I will need to take about 1/8" to 3/16" so it easily clears the bottom threshold and locks up onto the plate without getting caught up. I plan to call Monday before this happens but will report back on completion.

I would bet that if you stored the alternative wood for a year, the smell would go away. The guys making it are likely using some solvent to carry a chemical into it. It is likely they used something like iron acetate to darken it. For those who don't know: Take steel wool and put it in a jar and add vinegar and put the lid on and leave it for a while and you get this stuff in the vinegar that is iron acetate. If you take a chunk of wood that has some natural tannins in it and apply the iron acetate, the tannins go dark. Unlike a lot of other treatments the dark extends a good distance into the wood.

Do you have any reviews or recommendations for spray booth respirators?
@wdshpbiz
@wdshpbiz 2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I do not. Years ago when I was spraying a lot of Dupont Imron polyurethane (nasty stuff, but great paint), I used a separate airline respirator. I don't remember the brand or model. It worked fine, but you have to be very careful you are breathing clean air. Initially, I had inadequate filters on the air line and got water and oil from the compressor in my breathing air. I learned my lesson but had a case of pneumonia as tuition.

I was wondering about the cut end, does a cut or routed surface have to be filled or covered to be a finished surface, can a corner be mitered and glued.

I'm a little late to the party but I appreciate a review from someone older who has probably seen "the last X you'll every need" crazes come and go. I appreciate you pointing out what so many other reviewers have missed - you still need a conventional tape measure to measure certain jobs. For example, a laser will have trouble measuring flat items like a tabletop, a piece of plywood, or the length of a piece of molding. And before you buy, you need to confirm that it works in sunlight.

The problem I have is that you are left with filling in all the staples on your finished ends. Also, I always flush trim my finished ends, and using just a staple, I don't think this will give me a seamless joint. I always glue my face frames to the carcass; this gives it strength. I can see this tool being used in a high production shop building module cabinets. Gluing and clamping face frames does take longer, but the results, in my opinion, are better and stronger than just using staples. I pass.

"HVLP". Do you mean to say a vacuum cleaner gun system, properly known as a turbine gun system? My air-assisted airless guns are all HVLP. My CAS (compressed air supply, a/k/a conventional air supply) guns are mostly HVLP, including my Binks Mach 1, my Devilbiss 620G EXL, my Graco Delta, my Graco Finex 3000, and so on. My Graco, Croix, and Accuspray turbine guns are also HVLP. My point is that the HVLP description of the gun is misleading, as it says nothing about the source of air delivered to the gun. As for finish chemistry, we finishers don't need to be chemists, or chemical engineers, or rocket scientists. However, there's no excuse for not having a basic understanding of the products we use. We need to know their limitations, and what they aren't compatible with. We need to know basics on solvents, additives, diluents, resins, etc. At a minimum, everyone needs to know that a film-forming finish goes from a liquid state, and gradually "knits itself together" into a film-forming finish. Every finisher ought to be combing over every technical data sheet (product data sheet) for every coating that he thinks he might use on his projects. The basic question to ask if any coating is, "Will this product help me make money?" Answer that question, and if you're happy with the math as it applies to your bookkeeping, go for it. Do not be stymied by the so-called mysterious properties or chemical complexities of any product. Start by reading Bob Flexner's book "Understanding Wood Finishing". You have no excuse to remain in the dark, or to cling to old wive's tales on the mysteries or the so-called magics of finishing.
