Pure Land Buddhism starts with monotheistic faith and ends with Zen state of mind, or placid mind. I believe Namu Amida Butsu will connect monotheism and universalism.

These practices are dangerous even with a qualified guru/lama/etc. You are trusting their discernment which is not always the best, no matter how learnt they seem to be. Pulling on these archetypes that exist in nature is playing with fire.

David :-) Thank you. I heard you mention Tendril in conjunction with Synchronicity on Duncan's beautiful podcast (I love it when you are on). It led me to search for it on google, and what did I find? David Nichtern discussing Buddhism, Synchronicity, and Tendril, and how they correlate. A Synchronicity in itself, ha ha ha! Blessings David, Namaste

I had this sudden glimpse of open-spacious awareness as a child while playing hide and seek, I knew this mind is not the same as the child playing in her 3 year old mind-body.

Dear David, I am only now seeing this video. I was wondering if it is possible for one who has not received the empowerment from a teacher to very easily feel or "tune"into these deities like Tara and makes the connection in a way that he or she can actually have interaction and communication with these type of deities? You say it is adviced not to, but what if it comes so natural that it just happens? Thank you for this interesting talk!

It is said in the tantras and by masters such as Sakya Pandita as well that accomplishment lies on having a teacher who gives one transmissions and empowerments. That's how Vajrayana works. "What if it comes so natural", unless you're a mahasiddha, there's no such thing and is nothing more than a nudge for you to pursue empowerment and teachings for the said deity and NOT a sign that you can practice by yourself.

Not all forms of deity yoga require an empowerment. A list can be found on RigDzin online, which includes white Tara.

Thank you 🙏🏼 I’ve been a bit confused as I’ve only ever done guided meditation and I’m broadening my spectrum and including mindfulness meditation meditation, yoga and a few others . This being the one I can’t seem to get clear enough description and details on what makes a successful mindfulness meditation. With that being said I am Grateful for you and the videos you make . Namaste

American Buddhism was all these things, and also a cult in the eighties and nineties. Out of New York, it was a practice that centred itself on computer programming. Not even kidding.

Hi David. Watching it years later from Bogotá, Colombia. I began to follow your videos after seeing your character on The Midnight Gospel which was great; the whole series is wonderful. The analogy of moving to a bigger apartment when talking about spaciousness still echoes. Hope to catch one live some day.

Another excellent teaching David! Thanks for sharing all of these talks and teachings with us. I just completed you book: "Creativity, Spirituality, and Making a Buck", it was great! It helped me to reflect more clearly on my current conditions, and I am still thinking and writing about some points that you brought up, which I didn't think about so much previously on my own. Thank you having done the best job that you can, to develop your offerings to the highest degree of quality that you possibly can, so that your offerings have the best possible ripple affect on other peeps, such as myself! I have also listened to your son Ethan's book: "The Road Home: A Contemporary Exploration of the Buddhist Path", I'm both impressed and inspired by both of your minds, how clear and grounded they are, and how you both have the appearance of being very practical and down to earth individuals with good hearts and wise minds. I hope that you and your loved one's are doing well. Take good care dude!

You guys have cool minds, and great karma! I rejoice that you have had the karma to have a teacher student relationship with Chogyam Trungpa. Thank you for these teachings. Peace.
