What is your formal education Barbara? I can guess and it won’t be anything Construction or Engineering.. As a child one of the first books I read was the Three little Pigs.. A great education was unfolding! Oh and perhaps you need to study closely the Grenfell Tower Tragedy.. A catastrophe that had its roots in unqualified people making “technical” decisions. Barbara; I would not be promoting covering buildings in a very combustible material if I was you; I know what you are trying to achieve but this is absolutely not the answer!

Just wondered if the zeb could be fitted in addition to the existing combo boiler, with the zeb providing the heating and the combi for the hot water? I ask as the heating in winter is by far the most expensive element, whereas the hot water is relatively efficient with a combi. The scenario in mind, disables the central heating pathway from the combi, allowing the boiler to only provide hot water on demand.

Found this a bit incoherent and wasn’t sure by the end quite what his thesis was. JM not at his best speaking live, I think. Surely he doesn’t advocate a pan-European stylistic homogeneity? What’s wrong with styles which are specifically English or British? Agree on containers and extending existing buildings - greenfield development should be very regulated though. So many opportunities for interesting development within existing urban environments.

2023 - we have now crossed 7 of 8 planetary boundaries which effectively means we need a major u-turn in our linear design thinking. Ensure your old procurement models go beyond budget, aesthetic, performance etc and include current socio-environmental metrics, fit for regenerative design to meet the vital need for planetary health eg Cradle to Cradle Certified performance categories include, the material health of ingredients to the parts per million, product circularity (sourcing, design & systems), clean air and climate health, clean water and soil, and social fairness. If you specify C2C Certified products all of those have been robustly tested through an evidence-based, third-party assessed framework. Brilliant to lean into and fast track your product manufacturing or your project specifying. 540 WORLD look forward to hearing what you did differently on linkedin to transform to regenerative circular design. The footfall was so solid despite the snow and I believe up by around 33% overall on day two compared to last year - some of our guys really struggled to keep up with the demands to discuss how to make the built environment regenerative through Cradle to Cradle Certified products on the largest collaborative safe and circular, C2C Certified multi materials 540 WORLD showcase to date. I agree with this video - we are now discussing the 'how' in the UK, change is finally afoot! Thank you Futurebuild for your massive part in this!

Another great thing about these shows is that you get to meet the people who share an interest in environmental technologies. Building covers so many technologies and this is why futurebuild is so important to make a less polluted future for all of us. It's a very important educational day out for all ages and a chance to meet the people driving the future.

Can kingspan solar thermal tubes fitted to a wall rather than the roof for simple installation, easy access to future maintannce or repairs?

Hiring Business graduates for technical roles and allowing the marketing department to rule over the technical department is a recipe for disaster. Add in a culture of get the product through a test using concealed over engineering the test rig to ensure it passed and then deliberately misleading everyone about the performance results in certification and marketing literature. They needed a large scale burn test of the product on a concrete or masonry system. Unfortunately the test occurred on the 14th June 2017 and the deception that this man and the people reporting to him had purportrated was revealed to the public in the most horrific way. Covid has done many things this year but one of the cruelest is the delay caused to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. I hope that the BSRs will receive justice and that this man and the others will pay for their hubris. The phenolic and PIR manufacturers are as bad if not worse than the tobacco industry. They knew that their products were flammable but didn't care as long as they could sell them.

And then it all went wrong

Wrong was done, but the incentives and lack of proper structure, regulation, non-commercial professional supervision all contributory.

Buildings are certainly a "collection of materials" and thanks to Cradle to Cradle I can navigate and introduce non-toxic materials to other architects and directly to clients. Before Cradle to Cradle Certified products, it was a case of choosing the best of 'bad' built environment materials - some release toxic fumes for up to five years, some even longer! Now I can specify and design non-toxic, healthy and safe materials for buildings and interiors - thanks Owen for putting it succinctly! Material choices should always be safe, structurally and healthwise - positive for people and planet!
